Box 241: Curated Vintage Patterns & Fabrics

Box 241 has been bringing the best vintage sewing patterns and fabrics to fashion sewists worldwide since 2009. That's when my husband found, atop the recycling dumpster at our rural township park, a bag of 1950s & '60s Vogue and Butterick patterns. He knew my love of sewing and all things midcentury. And that launched my transition from selling vintage lingerie (in my former shop, I See France) to selling vintage sewing patterns at Box 241.

Handling so many vintage patterns has given me a keen understanding of fashion trends throughout the decades, as well as a deeper knowledge of garment construction from a time when details were important. I love the things I sometimes find in the envelopes: loopy handwriting denoting measurements and occasions, old newspaper clippings used for self-drafted pieces, decades-old straight pins, expert (and hack-job) alterations.

Box 241 is named for my childhood rural route address in the wilds of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It reflects a bit of mystery and speaks to the contradiction of my roots and my taste.
