At the beginning of every calendar year, most shipping providers make changes to their rates and services. We know these changes have a big impact on your shops, and we want to make sure you have the information you need to succeed in 2022.

This year, the United States Postal Service, FedEx, and Canada Post, which are available for purchase on Etsy, are making changes to their rates and some services.

Changes in rates are already reflected in labels purchased on Etsy or will be updated when they go into effect. These new rates are also updated automatically for sellers in the US who use calculated shipping. These new rates will go into effect on January 3 for FedEx and January 10 for Canada Post. Rates changes for USPS will go into effect January 9.

Here’s a look at some of the key changes:

FedEx

Domestic and International FedEx Express rates will increase by an average of 5.9%. Domestic FedEx Ground will also increase by an average of 5.9%.

FedEx will increase most of their commonly incurred surcharges.

Canada Post

The weighted average price increase for Domestic parcels is 3.5%.

Shipping prices for postage to the US and other international destinations will increase by 2.8%.

The price increase for Priority Worldwide is 5.5%.

United States Postal Service

Rate changes that go into effect July 10, 2022:

• On July 10, USPS® is raising rates for certain products, including:
• The starting price for First-Class Mail Letters is increasing to $0.57.
• The starting price for First-Class Mail Flats is increasing to $1.40.
• Media Mail prices are increasing by 9%, starting at $3.49 (rather than the current $3.19).
• Signature confirmation is increasing to $3.10.

Rate changes as of April 3, 2022

On April 3, USPS® introduced new fees for certain sized packages.

Packages that are these sizes will have the following surcharges added:

Packages that meet any of the following criteria and do not have accurate dimensions provided will have an extra $1.50 added:

• Exceed one cubic foot
• Are longer than 22”

Packages that are these sizes will have the following surcharges added:

Length fees:

• Packages longer than 22”: $4.00 surcharge
• Packages longer than 30”: $15.00 surcharge
• Cube fee: Packages over 2 cubic feet: $15.00 surcharge

Rate changes as of January 9, 2022

On January 9, USPS® introduced new fees for the following products:

• First-Class Package Service will increase by $.06–$.07 USD in the 1–4oz weights.
• Domestic Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express rates will increase by an average of 3.1%.
• First-Class International rates will increase by an average of 4.2%.
• Priority Mail International rates will see an increase of 3.7%, while Priority Mail Express International is increasing 3.2%.

Royal Mail

On April 4, Royal Mail updated many of their domestic and international fees. Most of these changes are related to weight and dimensions. Changes to specific costs for USPS, FedEx, Royal Mail, and Canada Post will vary depending on shipping services and destinations. Shipping prices for labels purchased on Etsy may be lower than you would find at retail counters.

Tips for updating shipping rates in your shop

Although many rates are changing, Etsy’s tools make it easy to update your shop.

Shipping labels on Etsy

Sellers in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and India can buy shipping labels on Etsy. Many services offered include tracking and some include delivery confirmation at no extra charge. When you purchase your labels on Etsy we’ll save you a step and automatically mark all of the orders as shipped.

Calculated Shipping

Calculated Shipping is a time-saver that allows sellers in the US and Canada to display shipping rates from USPS and Canada Post to buyers, automatically calculated for single- or multi-item orders, to both domestic and international destinations.

To use Calculated Shipping, choose Calculate them for me (Recommended) in the Shipping section of your listings. Follow the steps to add the item’s weight and dimensions, where you’d like to ship, the shipping methods you’ll offer and any applicable handling fees.

You can also add Calculated Shipping to multiple listings at once by creating a calculated shipping profile.

Any items with Calculated Shipping will have their shipping costs updated automatically.
