Frequently asked questions
WHAT IS WOOL PAINTING?
“Wool painting” is a technique used to create a picture, not by the methods of dry or wet felting, but by placing multiple colors of dry wool fibers in layers on a frame base, which has been covered with a quilted fabric surface. Once completed, the picture is nicely framed under the glass covering. This process does not use any needle, glue, water or paint. When the wool fibers are compressed under a glass surface, the artwork resembles a watercolor painting. It is only when you come closer to the picture that you realize it’s not painted. Under the weight of the glass, the multiple layers of wool blend together to form an image, which is lively, colorful, and very bright.
CAN I ORDER DIFFERENT SIZED WOOL PAINTING?
YES!
I can make a different size, based on your requirements. Please contact me to discuss the details.
Keep in mind that I will need to create a new wool painting for you and it will take 3 or more days to complete, depending on the size of the picture. The picture you receive may differ slightly from the image posted on the website, because each wool painting is unique. Wool is a living material and the fibers always act differently when laid into place. In addition, the colors of wool in each picture may differ slightly because of the nature of the fibers and the dyeing process used at my source for wool. Before shipping, I’ll send you the image of the final painting to make sure you love it and, if needed, make changes as you wish.
CAN I ORDER A WOOL PAINTING WITH A DIFFERENT FRAME?
YES!
I can change the frame for any of my original wool paintings. Please contact me to discuss the details.
Keep in mind that, depending on the frame you pick, the price of the wool painting may change, as well as the shipping cost. The availability of a frame might also affect the processing time for the order.
CAN I PURCHASE A WOOL PAINTING WITHOUT A FRAME?
YES!
Most of my pictures can be bought without a frame. To keep the picture safe during shipping, a plexiglass covering will be used for protection.
When placing your order, go to the product page and use the drop down menu under “Frame Options” and click on the button to purchase the picture without a frame.
WILL YOU MAKE A CUSTOM ORDER?
NO!
I don't accept custom orders.
DO YOU SELL WHOLESALE?
YES!
I can provide larger quantities of most items in my store. Please contact me with details.
HOW DO I CARE FOR MY WOOL PAINTING?
To remove dust and fingerprints, use a glass cleaner on the glass and a dusting cloth on the frame. Don’t remove the glass cover. The wool fibers could shift or fall apart as a result, and the painting may be damaged.
Don’t let the picture fall; it can damage the frame and break the glass. Small pieces of glass could become deeply embedded between the wool fibers and it won’t be possible to remove them.
Avoid moisture and don’t get the picture wet. Don’t hang the picture in the bathroom or outside the house.
Since all my paintings are made from natural wool fibers the moth can get into the picture. To prevent this attach an anti-moth product to the back of the frame or hang it nearby. Change it every 3-6 months.
DO YOU PROVIDE GIFT WRAPPING AND PACKAGING?
If you purchase a wool painting to give as a gift, I’ll hand write a personalized note from you and place it in the shipping box for FREE. I’ll also wrap the picture with gift paper for an additional $10.
