Welcome to 1000paintedtrees. This is my second ETSY shop. My other shop offers a lot of original watercolors as well as bird, animal and nursery prints. This is my newest shop but you can check out my feedback in my other shop (it has 2,000+ positive feedback!!) I will gladly combine shipping costs from my two shops.

So why a second shop?
I took a class years ago and asked the teacher how he painted his trees. They were amazing....not overworked, not too detailed; he caught the essence of the tree. He said in order to learn how to paint one tree, you need to paint 1000 trees. Once you paint that many trees you really know them and what marks it takes to paint one.
It dawned on me how that is true for all subjects... if I want to paint people really well I need to paint a lot of people. I can't expect the first one to be great (and it wasn't!!) And the only way to get better is to paint, paint, paint. So this shop is journal of my art journey to paint like mad. A journey to paint 1000 trees so to speak...1000 people, 1000 landscapes, 1000 birds. ( I know, his words were so simple, yet they were so profound to me.)

My other shop is primarily watercolors; this one is my chance to mix watercolors with acrylics, gouache, and colored pencils. This shop also offers unique art gifts.
I am excited to offer huge mural maps now too!!

Hunting for pieces to finish out my kitchen decor, I fell in love with this print. My daughter is pretty sure it would also be the perfect print for her dorm room this fall. Arrived quickly.

I really like this painting. However, when I opened the package, my son said, "Why do you want a weird, alien painting?" When he looked at the picture, he saw a face in the center (the nostrils are the eyes). Then, the rest of the family couldn't "un-see it". I, myself, now see that face. (I wish my son hadn't pointed that out!) Don't get me wrong - the artist is extremely good - I'm sure it's just our goofiness that has this problem.

About

It seems I can manage the routine of life and work as long as I get a little play time with my watercolors. My art studio is my sanctuary.

When an idea strikes me...I am so impatient. I want to drop everything and paint. I want to run to my art studio and begin. Most times I can't abandon everything but as the day progresses, I let the idea grow. Finally when I sit down in my art studio, I feel an energy. I don't know if the energy comes from the creative process or the table which is in my art studio (maybe both)...The table was in my grandma's kitchen. I remember playing there as a child. It was bright orange back then; I have since refinished it in white. I always felt safe as a child at Grandma's....safe to imagine and create. I remember being six, and painting several pictures to sell. (I wanted some pennies to go to the general store.) She bought several and I remember finding them years later in her treasure drawer. My family has always supported my dreams and that table is a tangible reminder of their love.

One of my greatest accomplishments is the private show I did with my father, Richard Beck, who also paints watercolors. When I stopped teaching elementary school, my father also retired from his career in the medical industry. Since that time we have worked together to support and pursue our art goals. We paint together weekly and take several trips each year to gather subject matter for our works. I wouldn't be able to do any art without the support of my mom, dad, and husband.

When I first started painting I thought all my watercolor marks had to be smooth and perfect. Now I purposely let the paints dictate the outcome. Watercolors are an interesting medium where the ratio of water to paint and the timing of when you add them to the paper can yield unexpected results. The artists I admire have lost edges and areas that are undeveloped. I think this is a great metaphor for life...not everything has to be perfect, defined, controlled, and neat.

Sometimes my artwork comes together magically; each wash complimenting the piece. Other times it takes scrubbing, lifting, scratching, redrawing, to get successful results. Either way the painting evolves, I only know at the end if I achieved something great or if I need to try the painting again.

I have two shops; ONE with original watercolors, notecards, landscapes, holiday prints as well as animal and bird prints (which are great for nurseries.)

THE SECOND shop has original acrylics, mix media pieces as well as some prints.
