From Painter to Sculptor to Illustrator to Designer & Business Woman! The magic lives in the journey with the desire to evolve and realize dreams

Growing up in UK I developed a very eclectic style in clothing and textiles which still influences my fashion sense today. I am self taught in fashion design and sewing, although I do have a Fine Art degree in sculpture. I attribute much of my skills to both my mother’s talent as a seamstress and my own experience in making sculptures.
I created my first label ‘Urban Nomad’ back in 1998 featuring a small collection of handmade fleece hats and tunics when I first settled on the East End of Long Island NY. The label name reflected my nature at the time as I'd been traveling around the world for years and wanted to evoke the gypsy spirit in my new found art form of hat making!
I sold wholesale to many boutiques in Manhattan and in The Hamptons as well as participating in local craft shows. Sales remained steady and I enjoyed working out of my spacious studio and doing small clothing productions in NYC.
However I couldn't see a way to grow 'Urban Nomad' to fully sustain me financially, so I came to a career fork in the road! I decided to retrain as a Pilates instructor in the Fall of 2000, then as a Reiki Master and Holistic Health Counselor, and over the next 8 years developed a private practice with a loyal clientele. For a while I kept making my hats until I had absolutely no free time whatsoever and I was forced to decide between one or the other! I was literally sewing my hats on my bus trips back and forth to the city!
I chose the Fitness and Health industry because it was bringing in a nice profit and for years I looked happy and successful. After severe trainer burn out (twice!!!) I decided to quit my business and NY and relocated to Sedona AZ where I planned to develop a new studio when I recovered from the burnout. Unfortunately the economic decline and recession proved that to be a non viable option, but luckily for me I had kept all my fabric and my machines, and out of that adversity my new label 'Thousand Peaks and Petals' was born!

Five years later I relocated back to The Hamptons where I opened a new studio and continue to teach Pilates and give Reiki treatments, as well as making hats for the winter season. I am happy pursuing both careers as I find it necessary to balance my energies between athletic and artistic endeavors.

Inspiration and Craftsmanship.....

I draw inspiration for my current 'Thousand Peaks' label from traditional clothing worn by the native peoples of Tibet, Nepal, Peru, and The Americas, while my 'Thousand Petals' label features floral and vintage lace appliqués, reworking the style of the ornate skullcaps worn in the twenties. My '1000' label is for my smaller accessories including my hand dyed bohemian style headbands and my retro fingerless gloves.
Each of my hats, scarves, gloves and headbands are an original design and I only make very limited editions of each style. To make my accessories I use my own pattern and then sew it on the machine. Once the shell is made I hand stitch and make the pompoms and tassels, appliqués, and braids. Each design is christened with a quirky name and featured on the hang tag.
I have a passion for hats as I believe they are the one piece of clothing that we can totally express ourselves, regardless of our profession, our status, or our age. In some cultures hats are worn to protect the crown chakra and ward off evil spirits with bright colors, and pompoms. There are so many reasons to wear a hat apart from keeping our heads warm, so wear yours with confidence and a smile, and you will be sure to receive many in return!

I have been designing, making and selling my hats for over a decade. I sell wholesale to boutiques across the country, attend craft shows as well as sell to individuals, personally or via internet. My objective is to strive to make unique, high quality hats with attention to detail and comfort. Non of my items itch or aggravate the delicate skin around the forehead and all items are sized. My hats are very durable and many customers tell me they wear the same style year after year. Each hat will arrive with a hang tag which will denote the size and style plus it will give washing directions- please follow carefully!

I accept paypal as well as money orders. Once your credit shows up in my account I can proceed to send you the order if I already have the hat in stock. If the hat is not in stock or you need custom made I will relate to you how long it will take to make before accepting payment.
I use USPS for orders that comprise of 1-3 items. Your hat will be wrapped in plastic and sealed in a Jiffy/Scotch envelope and sent 1st class (3-5 business days) with confirmation. Delicate items will be wrapped in tissue paper for added protection. Orders that are more than 3 items will be boxed and shipped UPS and we will need to communicate further about packing/shipping costs. With a larger shipment you will receive a tracking no. from UPS. I am willing to send overseas and can relate prices via email.
Another faster option is Priority mail (2-3 business days) with confirmation which will cost $8.50 for 1 item and $9.50 for 2 items.
Refunds and Exchanges
I will accept a return only if there is damage on arrival. Also I will accept an exchange if a hat doesn't fit properly only if you are willing to pay the return shipping plus enclose a self addressed jiffy/scotch envelope with postage prepaid. I understand it is hard to buy something that you cant try on so I will do my best to help you choose wisely before any money transaction. I will also accept a return of a hat if it is faulty within a 30 day period after it has been shipped. In this case you will have the option for a refund,an exchange or I will personally fix the fault if that is possible. Note that if the hat has extreme wear the offer of a refund will not apply and if a hat is constructed of a very delicate fabric then this will also not apply. I cannot offer any other refunds, but will gladly exchange for another style if you are willing to pay the return shipping and enclose a prepaid and self addressed Jiffy/scotch envelope. I will not be held personally responsible for any loss incurred during shipping or wrong address but will do my best to work out an appropriate solution if this problem were ever to arise.
Additional policies and FAQs
I am willing to sell wholesale and give quotes on larger orders. I may be willing to work on consignment but this is usually only with shop owners I have met personally. Custom orders will be arranged previous to any payment so both parties are aware of custom details and deadline.
