About

making clothes, finding meaning

100 Acts of Sewing grew from the love of textiles and a frustrating relationship with a sewing machine. In 2012, fiber artist Sonya Philip, created the project, with the goal of making one hundred dresses in a year and documenting each dress as it was made.

As the project developed, one key aspect became education - encouraging people to consider how their clothes are made and challenging them to make their own. After teaching numerous workshops throughout the country, Sonya developed her first dress pattern to sell on Etsy.

The patterns are a collection of uncomplicated garments in a range of sizes. They are written with clear instructions, walking the maker through each step to make the garment.
