It wasn't until she first held a torch that Chelsea realized what she'd been missing the past 25 years of her life. Now, we're not saying Chelsea should have been handling a torch as an infant, but we are saying she probably would have been a happier baby.
Metalsmithing is the thing that Chelsea needed to calm her anxiety and excite her passion, all at the same time. In making jewelry, Chelsea gets to be an illustrator, an architect, a painter and a sculptor. Since she built her own studio in her old house with her four male roommates (sorry, guys!) she hasn't stopped tinkering away. She currently works out of her new home studio in Old Town, Alexandria, Virginia. After friends and family urged her to sell her rustic designs, she opened shop with Etsy, where she'd been shopping herself for years.
Chelsea had found it challenging to find unique, handmade jewelry anywhere else. She very much likes that her pieces look handmade and rustic, and sees them as a tribute to her parents' native and beloved West Virginia. And so she named her shop 12POLE, after the creek that runs through both her parents' hometowns. Appalachia could never be summed up into one ring, but Chelsea hopes she's not offending her beautiful Appalachia by trying.
