About

Exclusive Midcentury inspired fabrics, beauty products and homewares

My background is in printed textile design.
In my previous life I sold designs to many varied companies around the world. Some you may have heard of include Levis, Liz Claibourne, Macys, Christian Lacroix, Esprit and countless others. I then went on to spend several years designing for UK high street names.
My real passion has always been for vintage fabrics, clothing and patterns – I make a lot of my own clothes but struggled to find fabrics I wanted to use. It seemed to me the obvious thing to do was combine my skills and passion and set up my own business specialising in retro 50s fabrics and so 20th Century Cloth came to be.
I can be inspired by pretty much anything – sometimes I will find a piece of original vintage fabric and be influenced by a particular technique I think has been used to create it. Vintage photographs and fashion sketches, even old pattern envelopes can take me in a certain direction. Pinterest is also an amazing Pandora’s Box of reference too. My particular style and interests are clearly rooted in the fabulously decadent 1950’s.
My husband and I collect 50s homewares and clothing, we have a wonderful original 1950s English Rose kitchen and a powder blue 1950s bathroom. We are also lucky enough to own a fantastic 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air, so you see this really is a passion and not just a business!!
