Falling in Love with Stained Glass
In 1979, I met Elizabeth Grafton, who was a stained glass artist in West Virginia. I had just graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in studio art and wanted to work as a full-time artist. My goal was to become a potter...until I met Elizabeth. When I saw what she was producing in her little Fayetteville, WV studio, I fell in love with the color and light in her work! It was then that I knew I had to give stained glass work a try.
I began working with leaded glass panels and then learned the copper foil method. My work evolved into lamp making and I joined the Association of Stained Glass Lamp Artists. Many years later, after moving to Charlottesville, Virginia, I was given the designation of "Virginia Professional Artisan" for both stained glass and jewelry work. I love working with glass because there is always more to learn!
I am currently spending most of my time back in West Virginia working in my studio to prepare for the upcoming show season. Online sales and examples of my work can be found on Etsy and IndieMade as well as my Dark Hollow Stained Glass website (see related links below).
I hope that my work will continue to grow and evolve. It is always such a joy to work with glass and share it with others.
