About

Sometimes it takes a lifetime to find your calling

It all happened about six years ago in upstate NH- I was looking for a career change but at the time I had no real experience outside of my field and not much could be said for my collection of job skills. All I knew was that I couldn't stand kitchen life any longer and I needed an out.
It was then that I picked up an internship at an auto body shop. as I have always been good with my hands and had done my own auto repairs since I could drive. so I figured with some professional training I would be off and running.
But something that I would never have expected to happen, happened. -I fell in love.
My tutor showed me how to weld a patch on an exhaust that had been badly damaged and the owner of the vehicle wasn't interested in replacement parts. He did this in a very routine, hum drum manner, as if this was the most boring task in the universe- but through my eyes, the scene was altogether different. I'll never forget that first time I wore a welding hood- it's intimidating for a first timer: you can't see very well, you don't really know what to expect through the lens...and for some reason my heart was racing.
Electric Fire. That was it, I was completely hooked. From that day forward at 30 something years of age I finally knew what I wanted to be when I grew up- and It wasn't a mechanic. I ran out and bought my first welder and began to hone my new skill. Then I fell in love with old school oxy/acetylene welding and the rest is history, really.
When I was young, the adults in my life called me a pyromaniac because I was always in front of a bonfire if there was one, poking incessantly at the glowing embers with my head in the clouds all the while. I guess some things never change. ;)
