Small Business with a Heart to Change the World

330 Designs’ focus is on going back to nature: the very thing that gives us life. Although we may be getting further away from nature as we progress technologically, it is crucial we realize that our actions may have consequences. We may have to start small, but realizing what excess waste does to the earth is incredibly important. With online orders skyrocketing like never before, there must be online companies that focus on reusable products and 100% recyclable packaging to combat the once-and-done, non-biodegradable items to which many of us have become accustomed in the sphere of online shopping.

Our fast-paced lifestyles are slowly affecting our planet. Trash islands have risen in the ocean, and chemical waste is seeping into the groundwater we drink, but 330 Designs still has hope. If we choose to be more careful about what we buy, the amount we buy, and how we dispose of used items, we can make an incredible change.

This small business will create products that support sustainable living: reusable makeup wipes, reusable sandwich bags, hand towels, and more - all naturally hand-dyed with locally grown plants. I hope these products inspire conversation about the small steps each of us can take to decrease wastefulness and use of non-recyclable plastics. Some things are easy to change, some are harder, but any change for good at all is a reason to celebrate.

All of 330’s products are dyed with natural, plant based dyes that I create from locally and home-grown plants. These plants are typically boiled for a few hours, strained and then used to soak the fabric for varying times based on the final desired shade. The fabrics may be soaked in other baths before adding color to increase the amount of dye that can bind to the fabric. These baths are called mordants. A mordant can possibly shift the color completely: a pink might turn into gray, or a blue might turn into a red-violet. Certain knowledge of the effect of different ingredients can only be found through experimentation and notation. The amount of creativity in this process is extremely exciting, as every object made differs slightly and has its own unique qualities. Each item is its own piece of art created by nature, just like us.

330 Designs was founded on the principle of decreasing ourselves for the betterment of the world, as it says in John 3:30. I’d love to discuss 330 Designs more with anyone who is interested. You can follow me on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest for updates.
