QR code signs for guest WiFi, menus and more. Designed from scratch and 3D printed in Vancouver, BC, one colour swap at a time.
Every guest asks the same question, and you answer it the same way: reading out a password
with a capital letter somewhere in the middle and three numbers on the end, then spelling it
again. A QR code sign ends that. Your guest points a phone at the fridge and they’re online.
I didn’t buy these models. I wrote them. Every sign here is generated by parametric code I
built myself. You give me your network name and password, and the code lays out the QR,
sizes the label text to fit, places the icon and produces a model made to order. That’s why
the personalisation genuinely works: your details aren’t pasted onto a stock template, they
are what the model is built from.
The icons are mine too, twenty of them, drawn from scratch rather than pulled from an icon
pack. Even the small mark on the back of every sign, and the shop logo itself, is the desk
stand’s own side profile.
They’re made by hand, one colour at a time. My printer has no automatic filament changer, so
every colour change on every sign is a manual swap: I stand at the machine, wait for the
pause, change the filament by hand and set it running again. On the fridge magnets, the
magnets themselves are dropped into their pockets mid-print and sealed under the final layers.
The part that’s easy to get wrong is whether the thing actually scans. A printed QR code
fails when its squares get too small for the printer to form cleanly, and nobody finds out
until someone is standing at the fridge with a camera that won’t lock on.
So I measured it. I printed a calibration plate that steps the QR square size down in
fractions of a millimetre, scanned every step, and found exactly where it stops being
reliable. Every size limit in this shop comes from that measurement, with margin on top. If a
long network name would push a sign past what its size can hold, the shop won’t offer that
combination. I’d rather tell you up front than sell you something that scans badly.
Then it gets checked twice. Every design is run through a decoder before it’s printed. If
software can’t read it, it doesn’t get made. And every finished sign is scanned with a phone
before it’s packed. If it doesn’t scan on my desk, it doesn’t go in the envelope.
