Announcement    Hello and welcome to 3 Sisters Silver. We often receive questions about the differences between our Colloidal Silver formulas and we'd like to explain how they are made.

The differences between our Manuka Blend, Elderberry Blend and Super Blend lie in the reducing agents used to convert ionic silver to silver nanoparticles. Instead of using chemical methods, natural substances also can be used to create silver nanoparticles, and a molecule of the reducing agent—whether a simple sugar such as maltodextrin or a more complex plant-based extract—becomes part of each silver particle. This more natural method is known as biosynthesis, also called green synthesis.

It is known that each reducing agent creates particles of a slightly different size and shape, and a growing body of research indicates that these microscopic differences can make silver nanoparticles more effective against certain pathogens. And since the silver nanoparticles carry molecules of their reducing agents to areas that those substances might not reach when used on their own, published research is exploring the uses of silver nanoparticles as carriers, too.

Our Manuka Blend uses high-grade Manuka honey as a reducing agent. Elderberry Blend is made with organic elderberry extract, as such nanoparticles have been shown to have a potent anti-inflammatory effect. The Super Blend contains silver nanoparticles synthesized with three traditionally used medicinal plant extracts: turmeric, cinnamon, and Essiac tea. These varieties of colloidal silver are made separately, to ensure uniform size and shape of the nanoparticles, and then are combined when bottled. This process is of course more labor-intensive, but given the possibilities suggested by ongoing scientific research, Katrina, Kelly and I believe it is work worth doing.

We call our formulas blends not because they are mixed with additives, but because each contains three forms of silver: ionic, bare nanoparticles, and coated (capped) nanoparticles. Three forms of silver: 3 Sisters.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!
