Born in the summer of 1985 in Northern Virginia, Lexi Jones aka 4StoriesUp, is an artist, social worker, wife, and stepmother of three. The artwork she creates focuses on reusing discarded materials and giving them new life.
Currently, Lexi is focused on creating mixed media collages using vintage vinyl record covers. On top of each album cover are layers of old books that are past their prime, postcards, photos, and anything discarded that contributes in a meaningful way. Each collage is based around a color scheme, the mood its pieces evoke, the title of the record or the lyrics of one of its songs.
4StoriesUp began with a love of making beautiful things from discarded things, as Lexi became increasingly frustrated with how much garbage her household and her community created. She began to find creative uses for things that no longer had a purpose as they were, giving each item layers of stories to tell. It started with elaborate birthday cards for friends and family, and when the overwhelming response was joy and excitement, it evolved.
Lexi received a Master of Social Work from Temple University in Philadelphia in 2006 and works full time as a social worker. Her nights and weekends are spent cutting paper, arranging and rearranging pieces, and waiting for glue to dry. She layers scraps of paper, as the story of each piece builds. Usually the end result is a surprise even to the artist herself!
