Excellent job packaging and shipping quickly. Good, solid quality and the style matches well with my old Craftsman style house

The screw holes take two rounds of filler. I also fill any serious dings. But I don't try for a perfect surface - I want it to still look like wood.

About

Yeah, I retired, but I still gotta make things.

When I closed my big furniture shop (Five Quarter Studio) in 2008 I thought I'd had enough. Fifty years of making custom furniture, making sculpture for myself and other artists, and running a CNC job shop - well, that was a lot of fun, but it did take its toll and I can't hump 120 pound sheets of plywood and MDF like when I was 20. So I thought I'd retire - you know - walk the dog, row my shell, watch the world go by.
Hah! That got old after a few months and I found myself out in my little home shop every day making new things. It's a very small shop, so I couldn't make anything very big, but that was fine because I don't have a truck any more, so I'm limited to materials I can fit in the Volvo wagon.
A few months more, and the top of the barn was completely filled with stuff I'd made, and there wasn't room for any more. I was thinking about taking it around to the local craft shops when a jewelry making friend mentioned Etsy. Bingo! Within a few moths I sold all the backlog. Then I took photos of everything I'd made for our house over the past 25 years, and that was the beginning of my Etsy store.
BTW, my biggest seller is the coat rack we have in our own entry hall, the one I use every day. You have no idea how much that tickles me!

I've been making furniture for over half a century. I studied at the School for American Craftsmen in the 60s and opened my own shop in 1971. I closed my big shop in 2008, but I still work every day in my home shop.

Thanks for checking out my shop. I'm on Etsy because I like to make things, and I've filled up our house, our kids' houses, and most of friends' houses with the things I've made. If I don't find new places for my work, I can't make more. I hope you'll find something here that speaks to you. If not, but you like my style, I REALLY like to design custom work. I design using CAD software, so you'll get high quality detailed 3D renderings - as many as you want from any angle and with accurate color.

Shipping
I ship mostly UPS, because that's who's closest here in small-town upstate New York (and because PayPal makes it so easy). There's only one "gotcha" - UPS rates for larger, bulkier items are based on volume (they call it "dimensional weight") instead of actual weight. So even though the upcharge for a longer coat rack is nominal, the UPS shipping charge might be prohibitive for a larger piece if you live far away. I can give you a firm quote for larger pieces once I know where it's going. If it's a large piece going a long distance I can alternatively ship USPS, which is less expensive.
Refunds and Exchanges
If you're not satisfied when you receive one of my pieces, send it back within 30 days for a full refund of purchase price. Sorry, but I can't refund shipping costs.
Additional policies and FAQs
It's just me in the shop, so time to ship depends on my backlog and what else is going on in my life (vacations, weddings, etc.). Each piece usually takes about two weeks from when I start work to when it ships. I'll let you know how long your piece will take when you order (or in advance - send me a convo), and I'll send work-in-progress pics if you like.
