Welcome to #6 Trinkie Chic. Everything in my shop is made from 100% recycled #6 plastic, saved from the landfill. So you can feel good, and a little morally superior, about using everything you see here.
Perhaps you remember Shrinky Dinks® from when you were a kid. They came with sheets of plastic and special pencils that you colored with. Then the whole thing goes in the oven and shrinks to a thicker, smaller size, as if by magic. Instead of buying the plastic, I get it from food packaging. Instead of special pencils, I use permanent markers, and I have a toaster oven dedicated to my crafting.
Because I make each item when it is ordered, it is easy for me to customize your order to make it in a different color or pattern. I am also happy to work with you to create a unique design for wedding favors, bridesmaids or groomsmen's gifts, employee awards, personalized luggage tags or key chains. Just shoot me a message!
#6 plastic is the clear stiff plastic containers you find at salad bars, though it's used for other things as well. I regularly eat at a nearby salad bar, and my husband's office regularly orders out at a local Indian restaurant; between the two of us, I am able to gather supplies for my creations, though I have friends who save plastic for me as well. Using this plastic, instead of that which is manufactured for the purpose of shrink art, means that sometimes my items shrink unevenly and I get some pretty laughable results. It may take a couple tries, but it's still fun.
If you're interested in the chemistry of why polystyrene shrinks like this, check out the How Stuff Works page at http://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/shrinky-dink3.htm. If you're not interested, that's OK...it's still pretty cool!

5 out of 5 starsWorking with TrinkieChic was great! I asked her if she could customize a larger set for my mother, which she did with enthusiasm in a very timely manner. She got creative and didnt need me to give guidance (these were for organic chemistry compounds) and did an absolutely great job!
I wish I could share photos, but I wasnt there to give them to my mom and my sisters didnt take great photos, but she made a set of 12 and got them to my sister in just a few weeks. Highly recommend!! -

5 out of 5 starsLOVE these little guys and their little hats and beaks. They're lightweight (but not fragile) and comfortable. Such a delight.

5 out of 5 starsThese are a terrific size, substantial but not overwhelming. Lightweight, the color is cheery and bright. They come with backings so the hooks will stay put, and they're a delight to wear. Fab!

5 out of 5 starsWe love our earrings. I custom ordered two pairs for my daughter’s 11th birthday and she loves them. It was great working with the maker to communicate what she wanted. Great experience.

About 6TrinkieChic

Here's a kitty wine charm before it goes in the oven. Shrinking will tighten up cutting edges, and brighten colors.

Here's the kitty wine charm after a few minutes in the oven. You can see it shrinks by almost 75%.
The Birth of 6TrinkieChic
In my regular life, I am an informal science educator, and I'm always looking for cool stuff to do with kids. I came across the instructions for homemade Shrinky Dinks® and tried it at work, to great success. Kids loved watching their creations curl and wrinkle in the oven before tightening up and flattening back down. I love watching it too! I would tell kids that they could punch holes in their art before it goes in the oven, and then they could make ornaments or sun catchers, and it dawned on me that I could do this too, only I was more interested in earrings. I started experimenting and the rest, as they say, is history.
The name comes from #6 plastic, which is what I use. TrinkieChic kind of rhymes with Shrinky Dink®. "Trinkie" from trinkets and "Chic" because why not?
