About

8XG Microfarms

8 EXTRAORDINARY GREENS Microfarms were originally conceived as part of an art exhibition, which explored the value placed on food, agriculture, and artistic social practice through interactions with gallery visitors.

Reclaimed household objects, such as a suitcase, dresser, and couch, were transformed into indoor gardens using a sub-irrigated growing system, which I designed. Each furniture object was retrofitted with a planter and lights and seeded with eight varieties of microgreens.

This Etsy shop sells 8XG Microfarms, which use the same growing system as the art objects displayed in the exhibition. They are designed and fabricated in Brooklyn, NY with locally sourced and reclaimed materials: wood is salvaged from discarded shipping pallets found in the Brooklyn Navy Yard and other components are sourced from small area businesses.

For creative ways of using your 8XG Microfarm to grow energy-packed, edible microgreens in small living spaces, check out images of the original exhibit here: http://8extraordinarygreens.com
