About

The Stories Behind The Stuff

My driving forces in life (besides my Love, Colette) are History, Found Objects, Ephemera, Antiques, & Creative Re-Use. The thread connecting all of these passions is stories. Each object holds a tale which the finder can choose to unfold.

The poet, Pablo Neruda has said it best for me in his poem "Ode To Common Things":

I love
all
things....
these buttons
and wheels
and little forgotten
treasures,
fans upon
whose feathers
love has scattered
its blossoms,
glasses, knives and
scissors--
all bear
the trace
of someone's fingers
on their handle or surface,
the trace of a distant hand
lost
in the depths of forgetfulness

-an excerpt from Pablo Neruda's
"ODE TO COMMON THINGS"

I love to discover the "forgotten treasures," learn their stories, and place them back in the open for the world to see.

Through my work as a Property Master for Theatre , Film, & TV, I actually am paid to go out and shop for these treasures from our past which will then be used to tell new stories.

While living in Philadelphia, I had the joy of finding a way of telling these stories in another way thru Found Object Art. The wonderful tribe of the Philadelphia Dumpster Divers (http://dumpsterdivers.org/) welcomed me in as a fellow traveler. This loose band of scavengers reuses the discarded materials they find to make incredible decorative and functional art work. Thru the examples set by the sages of this group I found inspiration to tell my own stories with discarded materials. I am happy to now have a shop to explore these projects again.
In collaboration with the Divers, we also set up a non-profit materials exchange called Please Take M.e. which served as a clearinghouse of materials for artists, arts organizations, and teachers.

Now resettled in Portland, Oregon (via Nine Mile Falls, WA) I have the joyful day job of working on TV, Movie and Commercial projects. I am also the Vice President for our IATSE Local 488 which covers virtually all TV & Film crew positions in our region.

When not on set you will find me sorting, photographing and scanning some of the treasures I have found in the last 20 plus years of collecting.

I look forward to sharing my finds with you.
