5 out of 5 stars (17)

Announcement   Welcome to AB3 Designs on Etsy. Thank you for visiting my shop! My pieces are all handcrafted using the finest materials. Silver focal pieces are handmade using Precious Metal Clay (PMC). PMC is made of tiny particles of fine silver "upcycled" from various sources including old x-rays, electronics, and jewelry. The pieces of silver are held together with an organic binder. When put into a kiln and fired at a high temperature, the organic binder burns away and the fine silver particles fuse together, leaving a solid piece of fine silver.

Fine silver (.999) is more pure, and therefore more valuable, than sterling silver (.925) which contains other metals, typically copper. Fine silver does not tarnish as easily as sterling silver and will often take on a whitish appearance when tarnished. To clean it wipe with a silver cloth.

The pieces are finished using sterling silver chains and findings, such as clasps and toggles, as well as Swarovski crystals and semiprecious stones. Leather used in the designs is sourced from a United States manufacturer. Beaded pieces are all handmade and finished with the same high quality materials as the fine silver pieces.

I hope you find something you like and if not let's design something together! I am always happy to accept custom orders!

About

From CFO to Jewelry Designer?

I often get asked, “How did you go from being the CFO of one of the country’s greatest culinary schools to making jewelry?” I answer them with three little words... “I had triplets!"

When I joined the culinary school as CFO in 2006 I had dreams of taking courses, receiving a certification as a pastry chef, and opening a bakery. I have loved baking since I was a little girl, and while at the school I took a number of courses. One of my favorites was all about fondant and pastry decorating - being able to make an ordinary cake or cookie into something stunning always intrigued me and the precise techniques spoke to my analytical side.

After the boys were born I would bake whenever I had free time. One day a friend asked me to take a class in making silver jewelry out of Precious Metal Clay (PMC) and the rest is history. To me, working with PMC is like working with fondant. I even use a lot of my fondant and pastry tools while making jewelry. The texture, and temperament, of both are very similar. Now, instead of consuming thousands of calories when inspired to do some handiwork, I create unique pieces of jewelry.

I live in a beautiful town on the New Jersey shore and many of the pieces I make are inspired by the beach and sea. I also draw a significant amount of inspiration from my other true passion, gardening, and obviously, most of all, from my children. Covering a potato chip of theirs in fine silver was one of my first projects.

DESIGN NOTES:
All letters and designs are hand stamped into the clay while it is still wet. While every effort is made to create an absolutely perfect piece, please keep in mind that each letter is hand stamped separately and they may may not be perfectly straight or of equal impression depth. I will never deliver a piece with which I am not completely happy!

FRESHWATER PEARLS AND GEMSTONES:
Freshwater pearls vary in size, shape, and hue. Many freshwater pearls have "growth lines" in them which occur naturally and add unique aspects to each pearl. It is very rare to find a perfectly round, white, and smooth freshwater pearl. I hand select each pearl used in my pieces in order to perfectly compliment the design.

Semiprecious gemstones are also naturally occurring and each strand typically contains stones with variations in size and shape. As with the freshwater pearls, stones are chosen which compliment each other as well as the overall design.

SPECIAL ORDERS, WHOLESALE, AND CONSIGNMENT:
I am happy to take custom orders work with you to design a special piece.
