Annett Bergk | AHB art & design

I think my parents are not entirely uninvolved in my artistic development. The memories of my earliest childhood are peppered with countless sheets of paper, pens, brushes and colors of all kinds. I was also very interested in writings very early on and was inspired by the hieroglyphics of the ancient Egyptians and also the Old German manuscript of my grandparents.

My family inspires me. And it also challenges me. When I have a difficult moment with a motif – be it because of the color, the shape or even the original – I imagine that my big brother looks critically over my shoulder and raises an eyebrow thoughtfully. This literally makes me change my way of looking at things and I dare to take the next step.

I am also inspired by my community on a daily basis. They demand and promote, criticize and praise bluntly. And many artists can be seen creating their works. I am currently almost daily on the social media profiles of the Dutchman Fredo Houben, the Canadian Justin Maas and also the Ukrainian Yuliia Fomina.

I am often asked if I only draw well-known personalities. In fact, this is not the case. Behind the scenes – i.e. outside the social networks – I receive many private requests. Couple or family pictures are the classics, if you will. But I also receive inquiries from the entrepreneurial environment. The HR department asks for a portrait of the boss as a surprise for the company's anniversary; a managing director wants to give the long-standing employees an individual pleasure. From this point of view, the celebrities and well-known personalities are rather the pictures that I get from my "I always wanted to draw!" drawer. And this is, so much I can reveal, filled to the top with ideas.
