This is my second heating pad I ordered from this shop. I gave the first one as a gift to my dad and he LOVES it! So naturally I had to have one of my very own:) I love it and look forward to ordering more as gifts! Great quality and packaged so nicely.

About

Beauty Professionals, I am here for YOU!

Welcome AHairInMyBiscuit! I am a former hairstylist who is now focused on bringing fun, up-cycled and functional tools and accessories to all beauty professionals. I spent 19 years behind the chair, and I still have a huge passion for the beauty industry, and for all of you who make the world beautiful!

I also love the Earth we live on, and I strive to use as many second-hand and repurposed materials as possible in my creations. All of my salon capes are made from fabrics that I rescue from second-hand stores, like shower curtains and window treatments. All of my Flaxie Hugs are lined with up-cycled materials, as well.

Just like most hairstylists, I have always had a huge creative streak and a strong desire to make things with my hands. My handmade business dream started when I decided to make all of my family's Christmas gifts by hand a few years ago. I made everything from pillows to purses to place mats to pajamas, and a bunch of stuff that doesn't start with the letter "p". Everyone loved their gifts, and I loved making them. I was hooked!

I began making Flaxie Hugs (heat/cold therapy wraps filled with 100% flax seeds) to help ease the aches and pains of standing at my day job as a hairstylist, and before I knew it, they took off...turning my hobby into a business. Not wanting to stop there, I began making haircutting capes to fill a need for lightweight salon apparel that would fit anyone, large or small. I have since 'retired' from my hairdressing career to pursue my business full-time, and added some other great hairdresser gear to my shop.

I love to sew on my vintage Emdeko sewing machine (it's older than me!), and I also enjoy drawing, painting, and creating treasures out of other people's trash. My workshop is "the sun room" in my 115-year-old farmhouse in the Deep South, where I live with my fabulous husband, two gorgeous daughters, and my amazing Mom. My family encourages me in my business endeavors, even going so far as to help cut pieces when I'm in a crunch and going with me to craft fairs.

I also write a blog about farm living in the Deep South, remodeling my old country home, crafting, food, and so much more. Visit me there to see what's new around the shop, and to get to know me, my family, and what makes me tick. Find me at AHairInMyBiscuit.com!

I absolutely love what I do, and I'm so thankful that I get to serve the hard working men and women in an industry that is dear to my heart. Thank you for all that you do: the long hours on your feet, the ear to listen, and your attention to detail with each and every client. You're a rockstar!

You can feel good about shopping with me and helping a fellow small business owner succeed, and also know that you're helping to keep perfectly wonderful fabrics out of landfills. You deserve a Flaxie Hug! :)

Have a GREAT hair day!

Welcome to AHairInMyBiscuit! I'm Martie, and I enjoy making things for you! My heat/cold packs are handmade, using new fabrics for the outers and repurposed fabrics for the lining. My salon capes are all made from repurposed fabrics. I love shopping for and choosing beautiful fabrics from second-hand stores, yard sales, and the like...I put to use everything from window treatments to shower curtains, giving old, discarded things a reason to live! All repurposed fabrics are laundered in hot water with a bleach alternative, and sewn for you in my pet-free, smoke-free home. Please stay and look around!

Additional policies and FAQs
FAQ's:
Q: Will my Flaxie Hug go bad or smell?
A: Not for many, many years, if you heat according to the directions. I have been using a flax seed-filled heat wrap for 10 years and it still has no odor. Unlike corn or rice, flax seeds contain oils that help them to hold heat without "cooking" in the microwave. Using flax seeds ensures that you will get a lot of life out of your Flaxie Hug!

Q: Is there a limit to the number of times I can microwave my Flaxie Hug?
A: Nope, as long as you heat it according to the directions. It IS possible to over-nuke it and cause it to burn, so don't heat it longer than the recommended time on the tag that comes with your Flaxie Hug.

Q: Can I add essential oils to my Flaxie Hug?
A: Yes, you sure can! Because heating essential oils takes away some of their healing properties, I recommend you add a few drops of the oil of choice to the outside of your Flaxie Hug directly AFTER you take it out of the microwave. High quality oils are recommended for this, as some oils use greasier carrier oils that COULD STAIN YOUR FLAXIE HUG BY LEAVING A GREASY SPOT. I have tried it with YL and DT oils and had great results.

Q: Do you use any other fillers in Flaxie Hugs besides flax seeds?
A: I do not. The only thing inside your Flaxie Hug is 100% feed grade flax seeds, and I do not use anything else to make my heat wraps.

Feel free to message me with any other questions you may have! :)
