About

Biology Professor turned Ceramist

Before clay, I spent many happy years teaching Human Anatomy. By forty, though, I was TIRED. And I really missed my kids. So I quit my tenured position to find a new way of life.

It wasn't easy. I started and stumbled on what felt like a million projects, none feeling right. "I should get a hobby," I thought. I randomly signed up for a ceramics class, fell in love, and soon became obsessed with all things clay.

I bought a wheel and took over a corner of our dark, cob-webby garage. A cousin offered me her ancient kiln. All day, everyday I was in the garage trying to get better, learn more, stretch. Seeing I had not intention of stopping, my husband agreed to put in some windows and dry wall so I could have a full functioning studio. And AMH Ceramics was born.

AMH Ceramics is a one woman (and one dog-muse) shop: I design, wheel-throw, hand build, glaze, package and ship all of my ceramic pieces myself. While most of my work includes functional pottery (think mugs, pitchers, dinnerware) and ceramic jewelry, I also sculpt, too. Each piece can take anywhere from two weeks to a couple of months to be completed. It is all a labour of love!

I'm happy to share my art with you and I hope that your selected item brings a little more joy into your life just as it has in mine. I can't wait to connect!

Hi! I'm the maker, designer, and shipper of AMHCeramics. Once a biology professor, I now enjoy making all things ceramic alongside my muse, Bugsy the boxer, in the AMH Ceramics studio in San Diego, CA, USA
