A journey of creation

I was a florist in my 20's and loved to design and enjoy flowers and plants. When I would do a particularly nice design, I would get out my watercolors and do a quick painting of it. Little did I know that years later, in my 40's, I would pick up my brushes again and start doing some small watercolors. The housing crash of 2007 led me to leave my real estate salesperson job to start doing art shows. I bought a tent and made walls out of chicken wire and wood (well actually my then boyfriend did!) And to my delight, I started selling paintings! I took my last real estate commission and purchased display walls and covers and started doing shows in earnest. I did most shows in South Florida where I was living, then started traveling up the coast in the heat of the summer - visiting New York, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and North Carolina. I fell in love with the Outer Banks on two of these art trips, after doing the Whalehead Club Art Show in Corolla, NC. More about that later...
I became a member of the Delray Art League in Delray Beach, FL and it was a really wonderful experience. They are a non-profit group that takes 10% of your sales and gives it to youth art scholarships and other worthy causes. Truly a win-win! At the time we were displaying our art in Veteran's Park on the Intracoastal. A space became open in the shopping plaza adjacent to the park and The Arts Arena was born! An artists' cooperative of 10 ladies, including myself. I was there for two years running the business and holding events. We really had a blast at those.
In 2013, I decided to move from South Florida to the Outer Banks. It was there that I was fortunate enough to find a space in Duck, NC, which had a small gallery and studio space with an apartment in the back. Coastal Fine Art was born! I was able to paint and make glass mosaic windows full-time. The Outer Banks is truly an inspiring place! No wonder so many tourists come there for their vacations! While here, I still did the Whalehead Club Show and added in the New World Show in Manteo run by the indomitable Eddie Green. I also displayed my art at The Christmas Shop, YellowHouse Gallery, Urban Cottage, The Cottage Shop and others. You can still see my prints and cards at Nancyware Pottery in Manteo - you'll love Nancy - she's very special.
Now I have moved to Asheville NC and am enjoying the gorgeous landscapes of the Blue Ridge and surrounding. It's the most inspiring place I've lived to date! About 25 years ago I did some silver-smithing and really loved it, but it got put to the side. Now I've picked up the torch again and am creating pieces that I really love to share. My pieces can be seen at Seven Sisters Gallery in Black Mountain NC, about 15 east of Asheville. The ideas just keep a-coming and I will keep a-making!
