Sharing smiles wherever and whenever I can.

I have loved scrapbooking since I was a teen. I saved every picture, ticket stub, napkin, matchbook, flower, ribbon, note, card - you name it! Everything went into a scrapbook, albeit primitive at first, just a note to help remind me of the who/what/where. There was not much additional embelishment going on at that time.

Then came marriage to a wonderful guy and three children. I still took pictures and saved things but there was certainly no time for scrapbooking. I would try to get in an occasional handmade card or plan theme parties for the kids (we had a mystery party, a Tarzan-themed party, Movie Night party to name a few) to help keep my "creative spirit" alive.

Then it seemed that all at once the scrapbooking business took hold and there were scrapbook stores and books about scrapbooking, videos and podcasts to watch. I started collecting things again, pretty papers, stickers, die cuts, ribbons, etc. I saw new tools, punches, brads, buttons...I wanted to play!!!

My first real step back into the scrapping world came when I planned a surprise party for my husband's 50th birthday. I found pictures of him at various stages of his life and put together some pages that I hung on the wall at the party for people to see and some blank pages for people to add their own birthday wishes. I took pictures at the party and when it was all over, I used the pages I had made as the beginning of the album and then made more pages from the pictures of the party. I added stickers, the invitation, etc., and I was hooked again!

I still did not have very much time for my fun hobby but little by little the kids got older and needed me less and, while I was still working full time, I had stopped working in an office and had started my own transcription/secretarial service from my home. Looking at all the pictures I had accumulated through the years that were just in boxes, I decided to start a scrapbook album for each one of the kids. Just the basic school pictures at first to give me date references. Then I did an album of a Disneyland vacation that we had taken. The photos had been put in one of those old magnetic type albums and were getting brown. I had to save them!

I started watching podcasts (I love Scrap Time with Christine Urias) and started learning new tricks and techniques. I made a chipboard album for my family from a song my mother used to sing for us called Cowboy Jack. That went over so well! Then I saw an album made using paper bags. OMG! That looked like so much fun! I had gone to a concert with my husband and two of our very good friends and had taken pictures which had come out rather well. I decided to make a paper bag album to share the fun time we had. My friend was amazed and said "You should sell these things!"

What?? Really?? I had heard of Etsy by then and had even created an account but had not tried to sell or buy anything yet. Could I really have fun and make money too? Goodness knows by now I had TONS of supplies! It was early April and Mother's Day was coming. I had another idea for a chipboard album using the words to the song "MOTHER" so I put one together, added my seller's information to my Etsy account and put the album up for sale. I put the pictures from the "Cowboy Jack" album up and pictures from a "Friends" banner I had made so there would be more than one thing for sale and crossed my fingers...

Within a few days I had SOLD that Mother's day album!!! I shared my success on my Facebook page and one of my friends saw it and asked me to make one for her! TWO sales!

Okay, so now I am really excited. What else can I make? I put together another paper bag album for Mother's Day and made a School Days album to try to catch the end of the school year crowd. Then I made some black and white blank note cards and put those out there too. I started a Facebook page to connect with my Etsy shop. Another friend saw the cards and...another sale!

I started going onto the Etsy site to check out other artists and joined a few teams, added people to my circle, shops to my favorites. I check out my shop stats and sometimes it is a little depressing to see that no one has checked out anything for days at a time, but then I get a notice that something I shared has been added to a treasury and site activity increases. I know it will increase the more things I add but I want to make sure that what I am creating is something worth listing. True, I am not going to get rich overnight but that is not really the point here. I love scrapbooking and I have found a way to do what I love, make a little money and hopefully share that good feeling and brighten someone's day. As my shop motto says, A smile is contagious, pass one around!
