A Lovely Blend of Old and New Fabrics, Fashions & Techniques.
I began my journey with textiles and fibers while a member of the Air Force. While stationed in Germany, I became involved with Medieval re-enactment and realized quickly that it was much cheaper to make my Medieval clothing than to buy it. That eventually led me to learn to weave, spin yarn, and dye my fibers and textiles with dyes I made from plants.
After being honorably discharged from the military, I studied history in college and ended up writing my Master's thesis on the fashion and technology developments and exchanges pertaining to silk prior to the First Crusade. After grad school, I took up belly dancing and began making costumes for myself and other dancers.
Since then I've begun making clothing from sustainably sourced fabric that I dye naturally with plants and minerals. I also learned to make felt in a variety of ways (wet felting, Nuno felting, and needle felting).
The thing I love making most is my 3-D needle felted soft sculptures and tree toppers. With my knowledge of ancient and medieval clothing, combined with a creative use of colors and textures, I create clothing for my sculptures and tree toppers that are true to their culture, though occasionally with a modern twist.
I sew, weave, spin, felt, and make dyes using plants and minerals. I draw inspiration from textiles & fashion from cultures all over the world. I love travel, dancing, reading, craft beer, and cuddling kitties.
