Comfort, Woven from Tradition.
How did you start? What motivates you?
My story didn't begin in a workshop, but in the stone courtyard of my childhood home, where geraniums cascaded down the walls. My most vivid memories are of my grandmother, sitting in the shade of an ancient mulberry tree, pulling out peshtemals from her old wooden chest. I remember their unique scent and texture. They weren't just pieces of cloth; they were heirlooms that carried the memories, the experiences, and the warmth of generations of handmade artistry.
Years later, in a modern world where everything is mass-produced and quickly consumed, I realized I was yearning for that authentic touch, that sincerity, and that enduring quality. There were countless products on the market, but none possessed the soul of the peshtemals in my grandmother's chest. That was the moment my quest began: to revive that fading spirit.
This pursuit led me to the fertile lands of the Aegean, the homeland of the world's finest cotton. I learned from the last remaining masters who still practiced their art on traditional looms. I learned the secrets of hand-weaving, how colors danced to life with natural root dyes, and how each thread was spun with unwavering patience.
What motivates me is this very connection. It's the ability to take the purity of the soil, the labor of an artisan, and the heritage of a family, and deliver it into your home, into your life, as an object of comfort and peace. For me, every click of the loom, every hand-spun thread, is a nod to those memories in the courtyard.
My story is a desire to prove that a peshtemal is not just a tool for drying off, but that it can also be a sanctuary, a memory, and a work of art. When you choose Avlu Home, you're not just buying a handmade product; you're becoming a part of a tradition, a passion, and the most beautiful memories of my childhood.
