The transition from a restaurant manager into reclaimed woodworking artisan.

After refinishing several table tops from the restaurant I work for I realized how relaxing and enjoyable it was to give new life to wood.
My grandfather used to do similar restoration work on antique furniture and other items he and my grandmother would purchase a estate sales throughout the mid west. My mother was also an accomplished and award winning quilter. This is where I believe I inherited some of my artistic talent.
While surfing the internet I saw what others were doing with wine barrels and the materials that are a part of the barrels. I was hooked and had to see what I could do.
So with my black Labrador Retriever Chloe, who is by far my best friend and constant companion and some times critic, I began on this journey and found that I had a bit of a knack for it and also discovered the many rewards that it has brought to me. Since starting I have met many wonderful people and discovered a part of myself I never would have if I had not put fourth the just give it a go.
I have been able to market some of my work which has provided me the ability to continue forward and create more.
The challenges of being on the opposite coast of the United States where wine barrels are not abundant and obtaining the materials for my work a bit more difficult and expensive than what they would be if I lived further west, have not been as big an obstacle as one would expect because I enjoy it far to much.
