About

The Story Behind Adam's Ale Art Prints

Welcome! I am glad you're here.

I named my shop Adam's Ale because Adam's Ale is a slang term for water; Adam's first drink. Adam's Ale Art Prints are about life and the history of the documentation of various forms of life, especially those having to do directly with water. Those scientific illustrations of yore were about new discoveries, and wisdom. Kind of like Eve's apple - but in a good way.

I love the water. I grew up along the Mississippi River because my dad was a riverboat captain. Now I live on the Columbia River in Oregon. The craggy coastlines, mixed with the cool breezes, the smell of the sea, and the powerful waves are a salve. There is no place I would rather be. I hope if you've never been to the Oregon Coast, you will get the chance some day.

I have a BA with a focus on ecology and believe the materials we consume should have meaning and be durable. The pigments I use in Adam's Ale prints are meant to last for a lifetime, as is the paper. The canvas I use is archival certified. I want these prints to be appreciated for generations.

I enjoy my work. I look through historical documents and journals for the most beautiful scientific illustrations I can find. I learn about the artists/scientists who created the illustrations and the historical significance of the pieces. I enhance and restore these illustrations to their former beauty and they become art prints. Afterwards, they go to homes, offices, classrooms and other important spaces, where they will live on. I am proud to be a part of the prolonging and sharing of scientific and artistic history.

Frequently asked questions

Custom and personalized orders

With the exception of my Ernst Haeckel prints, I can change the colors and backgrounds of most of my prints. In addition, if you want a size that I don't have listed, please message me here. Chances are I can make your size.

If I don't have it, ask me for it, especially my gold foil maps. I can make almost any city or town!

Sizing details

Most of my prints have an extra .25" of white space on each side. This I'd so you can scoot your print under the mat for perfect placement and tape it down on the back of the mat (with acid free tape). If you don't want the extra space, let me know and I will remove it.

Care instructions

My papers are archival and my inks are long lasting pigments so your prints will last a long time. Still, it's a good idea to keep them out of direct sunlight.

My canvas prints are coated with a UV ray protectant that also protects your canvas art from scratching and discoloration. If you get something on your canvas print, please only use water and a very very soft cloth to clean it. If you absolutely must, dab a little palmolive and water on your soft cloth to clean the spot.

Wholesale availability

I also sell through Etsy wholesale! If you are interested in wholesale pricing and aren't a member of Etsy wholesale, please message me here at my shop.

Returns and Exchanges

I accept returns and exchanges. Because each print is made to order, I may charge a 25% restocking fee. Thank you. If the order has been damaged in transit, please message me with photos of damaged goods. I will replace items damaged in transit.
Because gallery wrapped canvas prints are expensive to make and expensive to ship, please be certain of your purchase. If you are unsure of your color choices, please message me for a mockup featuring your colors. The first mockup is free of charge.

Shipping

I combine shipping to save you money if two different orders are going to the same address. Please message me to let me know that you've made seperate orders. In single orders of more than one item shipping costs will also be greatly reduced for the second and all following items.

Please make sure the address on your account is current before you order.
I will ship to the address you provide if you message me with an updated address after you order but that's risky because a) you may provide an updated address that's wrong b) human error, I may get it wrong rewriting it. In those cases you will have to wait until I receive returned package for reshipment and if the error was yours I will invoice you for second shipment fees.
