Chemistry Teacher to Potter
Circa 15 anni fa, ero un insegnante di chimica delle scuole superiori e ho partecipato a un progetto con un insegnante d'arte e il museo dell'artigianato locale. Il progetto doveva mostrare il rapporto tra chimica e ceramica. Ho lavorato con l'artista residente (vasaio) del museo per creare lezioni sulla fisica coinvolta nel lancio dell'argilla alla chimica degli smalti. Il vasaio residente mi ha fatto provare a lanciare sulla ruota e sono rimasto agganciato. Questo è stato più di 10 anni fa! Ho preso lezioni e imparato dai membri della mia gilda di ceramica. Ho trascorso una settimana alla John C. Campbell Folk Art School di Brasstown, NC, migliorando le mie capacità di costruzione manuale.
Recentemente mi sono trasferito a Lyman, SC e desideroso di affermarmi nella comunità artistica dello stato superiore. Il mio lavoro è incentrato su ruote lanciate e ceramiche funzionali costruite a mano per la casa e il giardino ispirate alle forme, ai colori e alle trame che si trovano in natura.

About 15 years ago, I was a high school chemistry teacher and participated in a project with an art teacher and the local craft museum. The project was to show the relationship between chemistry and ceramics. I worked with the resident artist (potter) from the museum to create lessons about the physics involved in throwing clay to the chemistry of glazes. The resident potter let me try out throwing on the wheel and I was hooked. That was over 10 years ago! I took lessons and learned from members of my pottery guild. I spent a week at the John C. Campbell Folk Art School in Brasstown, NC improving my hand building skills.
I have recently moved to Lyman, SC and eager to establish myself in the upstate art community. My work centers on wheel thrown and hand built functional pottery for the home and garden inspired by the shapes, colors and textures found in nature.
