About

The Story of Affair Shake

Affair Shake was born of two childhood best friends sharing their love of all thing retro, swanky and vintage.

After re-connecting more than 8 years ago, these two childhood pals realized that their love affair with midcentury modern goods bordered on obsessive. To help fund their passion for shopping and for hoarding only the best MCM furniture and home goods, they decided it was time to design a store revolving around offering vintage goods at reasonable prices—anyone who has been in an antique shop over the last 10 years knows that the prices can border on obscene. It was time to bring a change to the market.

They coined the name "Affair Shake" on the concept of offering buyers "a fair shake." And because the definitions suited the concept to a tee, (Affair: noun: object or collection of items only vaguely specified. Shake: noun: a fair chance or fair treatment), so was born the name and tagline: "We believe everyone deserves Affair Shake!"

The Etsy store is primarily managed by Julie with the help of Lynette photographing products, researching the history of the items, posting and promoting through various social media and sales outlets.

In early 2011, Kelly opened the "Affair Shake" resale shop at the Olde Shadeland Antique Mall in Indianapolis Indiana at 3444 N. Shadeland Ave. and attends events around the city selling her MCM finds.

What happened when Kelly came on the scene was a bit of a tidal wave: business after business began following suit, offering up scores of MCM goods. To date, we offer some of the best prices around and if you don't think so, just let us know and we'll be happy to work with you. We'll always make it our mission to ensure you get an "Affair Shake."
