About

From Art Deco to 1980s... This is the Place to Get Your Vintage Fix!

Welcome to the Age of Plastic! Here you will find a variety of vintage jewelry, with an emphasis on early vintage plastics.

I have been collecting vintage jewelry for about 30 years and have been selling on Etsy since 2010. Most of the items you see in my shop come from my personal collection. I worked for over a decade in museum collections, so enjoying and preserving these treasures of the past is central to my philosophy as a seller.

As a long time collector and fan of vintage, I have experienced almost every kind of bad seller/dealer, from ignorant to just plain dishonest and mean. It is my goal to treat my customers the way I expect to be treated. I describe my merchandise in precise detail, and to the best of my ability. If I don’t know something about a piece, I won’t lie to you about it. If you have questions, please feel free to Convo me. I might even be able to help you find something you’re looking for that I don’t have. If you are new to Etsy or new to buying vintage, read my customer feedback and shop here with confidence!

Welcome to the Age of Plastic! Here you will find a variety of vintage jewelry, with an emphasis on early vintage plastics. I have been collecting vintage jewelry for almost 30 years and recently celebrated five years of selling on Etsy.

As a long time collector, I have experienced almost every kind of bad seller/dealer, from ignorant to just plain dishonest and mean. It is my goal to treat my customers the way I expect to be treated. I describe my merchandise in precise detail, and to the best of my ability. If I don’t know something about a piece, I won’t lie to you about it. If you have questions, please feel free to Convo me. I do have a full-time job that keeps me in Bakelite and out of debt, so typically I will not be able to Convo during the 8-5 work day (unless I happen to be around at lunch!). But I promise to respond to all messages within 24 hours and mail all purchases within 2 business days (usually less). I hope you see something you like!

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy gift cards
Payment
Age of Plastic accepts payment by PayPal and Etsy Direct Checkout.

I don't mind reserving items on request (one item per customer at a time, to be fair). But after 7 days without payment, I will Convo you before returning the item to the shop for others to have a shot at it.

Michigan residents must pay 6% sales tax on all purchases.
Shipping
I will ship your order within two business days. All items are packed with care and shipped via USPS first class or first class international. For your protection and mine, all U.S. purchases now include tracking and are insured by U-PIC. Please Convo me if you would like me to upgrade to Priority Mail or recalculate shipping on an order with multiple items.

International shipping rates include insurance via U-PIC. I recently edited my shipping rates, and you may not see your country on the list. I actually ship to most places, except for the following countries, which my insurer does not cover: Afghanistan, Angola, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bolivia, Brazil, Burma, Congo, Cuba, Georgia, Iran, Iraq, Ivory Coast (Cote d'Ivoire), Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Liberia, Mexico, Moldova, Nigeria, North Korea, Paraguay, Russia, Russian Federation, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Venezuela. If your country is not on this list and you wish to purchase an item, please Convo me, and I'll be happy to help you with your purchase!

If you come from a country that has problems with mail fraud, customs delays, etc., this is something you need to be aware of as a buyer. If you are shopping internationally, I'm sure you are aware of these risks. It is not my policy to lie on international customs forms and I will not mark items as gifts or lower the value on customs forms. Taxes, duty fees, and custom charges are the responsibility of the international buyer. Please feel free to Convo me if you have any questions about international shipping.

Note on Severe Weather Delays: We Midwesterners take pride in our ability to tough it out in all forms of meterological nastiness. I embrace that generally and it really should not be a problem 99% of the time, but in truly dangerous conditions (ice storms, snow accumulation in the double digits) there may be a delay in shipping of your purchase of a day or so. I promise to communicate with customers throughout the process if this happens.
Refunds and Exchanges
Return Policy

Returns are gladly accepted if your item arrives in LESS THAN DESCRIBED/PICTURED condition. Please follow these steps:
Contact me within 24 hours of receipt of purchase.

Please wait for my response.

Mail item within 72 hours of my response.

Item must be mailed with original packaging.

Delivery Confirmation must be included for your protection and mine (U.S. customers).

Buyer pays for return postage. Refund of purchase price only.

Thank you for shopping with me. My goal is to make your purchase a pleasant one, so please feel free to Convo me with questions, suggestions, or just to talk vintage.
Additional policies and FAQs
Testing of Vintage Plastics

I know that testing is important to people who collect vintage plastics, and I want you to feel you can shop with confidence in my shop. But as someone who worked for many years in museum collections, preservation of these often delicate items is equally important to me.

I always Simichrome test Bakelite when it is safe to do so, but I don't bother using chemicals on items that are clearly molded plastic, celluloid, etc. I also will not Simichrome test a resin washed Bakelite piece if there is a risk of damaging the item. In those cases, I will hot water/touch test the piece to identify it. If you ever have questions about a specific item, please feel free to ask!
