Welcome to A is for Alice! I'm Ruth, and I design and make all the awesome costumes you see here!
I trained as a costume designer and worked in the theatre for many years, before moving on to run my own costume hire company and lecture in theatrical costume.
After having my two awesome kids, I now work from my tiny little studio overlooking the garden in the heart of England, in between the school run!
I am inspired by my daughter's ever changing love of magical creatures and fantasy adventures and my son's superhero ambitions; fuelled by coffee and Radio 4, I dream up designs and sew up a storm!

Frequently asked questions
How do I specify the details for my order?
If you are placing an order that requires personalisation, just leave me the details in the 'notes to seller' section at the checkout, or send me a message. I will get back to you as soon as possible!
Does my order come with gift wrap?
All my items are tissue wrapped with a cute sticker, but if you require a personalised note or specific wrapping, send me a message and I will do my best to help!
What age will these items be suitable for?
All of the items are designed with children in mind, and are most suitable for ages 3 - 7. However if you require something bigger or smaller or for a grown up, just send me a message!
How long will it take to arrive?
All of our items are handmade so take approximately 10-14 days to create, then 2-3 days (UK) or 7-10 days (Europe, US, Australia etc) to be delivered. If you need something for a specific date, so let us know and we will see if we can speed things up!
How do I clean my item?
Our costumes and accessories are designed to be dry cleaned only. Getting your item soaking wet may result in colour/dye run, and damage.
Our capes can be ironed on a medium heat, on the reverse side to the felt details.

At A is for Alice, we only keep your personal information for as long as it takes to process & dispatch your order, & for our own tax records.
You have a right to any of the data we keep, as well as being under no obligation to follow our social media channels - you can unfollow at any time for any reason.
We only share your information with companies immediately relevant to processing your order, such as Royal Mail. Whenever we share photos/reviews on social media, we will always seek your direct permission before sharing them, and you may withdraw that permission at any time & the information will be deleted.
