How Alaska Laser Maid came to be
I got a part time job doing cool stuff for Bill MacCannel, the owner of Alaska Laser Craft in 2003, I think, he taught me everything I know about using the laser to cut and engrave wood, stone, plastics, glass, leather, vinyl, rubber and what ever else people came into the shop for us to engrave.
In 2006, his wife got very sick and they had to go 'south' (to Washington state) and left me in charge. To make a long story short, he decided that he didn't want to live here anymore or run the shop after his wife's death... so I bought it from him and had to change the name in June 2007.
Then I had a hard time getting finished sanded wood, because the guy who did that was tired of doing it... so I bought his 13 inch wide belt sander and dust collector from him and started sanding my own boards. All the wood is mostly salvaged logs from old logging areas here on Prince of Wales Island and is milled at local family owned sawmills.
And now years later, here I am, doing everything I did when I was then, plus a whole lot of other things. My laser is at my real life shop in the town of Thorne Bay, about 12 miles from where I live. So that is where I do most of the design, laser cutting and engraving, then I take it all home with me at the end of the day and do the finishing, lacquering, put it all together and bring it back in to pack and mail out.
My inspiration comes from my surroundings for the most part and imagination and general quirkiness. Sometimes the patterns of the wood inspire something, sometimes it's artwork or seeing things and thinking, "I could do something like that!, sometimes people give me ideas, sometimes I make mistakes that turn into other things. I do have templates that I've created for runes and boxes using Corel Draw and a 35W laser. Some times I get to use my own artwork, sometimes people send me theirs, often I find awesome things at clipart place I'm subscribed to. So ask about artwork you'd like to see and I'll see what I have or can find. It is so much fun making something new and different and that is why I'm here. I love my job!

Refunds and Exchanges
I don't do perfect, but I do strive for excellence. Keep in mind the wood has it's on characteristics and there are characters running the sawmills that cut this. They try really hard to meet my specifications and sometimes no amount of sanding can remove the marks left by saw blades and still have a board thick enough to use. I try to avoid those spots, but sometimes it's unavoidable. Wood by it's very nature is going to have different things going on, I try to bring out the beauty and use it to highlight the items I create and maintain it's strength and integrity... but sometimes I miss something.
Additional policies and FAQs
I guarantee that I put my best into each and every product, I can't guarantee perfection tho'.
Care for your wooden products:
Use a soft clean cloth and follow the directions on furniture oil or polish. Sometimes the oil will really make the engravings jump right off the box, it does help. Just be very careful not to rub too hard or it can break off bits of delicate illustration type engravings.
Thanks for reading this.
Rune sets are sets, I don't sell mix and match runes or break sets up. Boxes are another matter, if you want just the box, let me know and I'll make one for you without the runes included.
If you want an individual rune, contact me, I have extras on hand.
