I've been buying things on Etsy for a few years now, and Joe not only does beautiful work, but is also very pleasant to deal with and stands out as the most professional business person I've dealt with on Etsy. This and the other shelves I've bought from him are marvelous, and the transactions could not have been easier. Thank you very much!

About

The natural beauty of wood, joy & transformation

I love the natural aesthetics of wood and the process of transforming wood into items that are functional, beautiful, and well designed. Wood is an amazing material. It’s an organic, renewable resource that has infinite design appeal in terms of color, texture, and figure & grain patterns – the look and feel of wood. I also love the challenges of working with wood. For example it’s not a static material; wood is constantly moving due to temperature and humidity changes in the atmosphere, and this movement must be taken into account in the design in order for the piece to last for years and years.

It is so personally satisfying to drive the transformation from raw lumber to finished wood piece: seeing the figure patterns come to life when a finish is applied, the silky-smooth feel of planed, finely sanded, and hand-rubbed wood surfaces, and the overall sense of happiness that I feel when a piece is finished. Since opening my Etsy shop in early 2013, I’ve really come to appreciate how my work makes others feel as well. I’m energized & inspired by the joy of people who appreciate my work and understand how one-of-a-kind, locally produced, handcrafted work contrasts with mass-produced, commodity type products.

One of the goals for my Etsy shop is to offer a diverse & evolving line of home décor and kitchenware wood products, hopefully each unique in some way that reflects my personality. I strive to continuously improve my woodworking & design skills that each of my pieces will reflect.

My shop is located in the basement of our house that I share with my wife Jackie and our two cats Ozzie & Mojo. We live in the village of Hadlyme within the town of East Haddam, Connecticut, about 1 mile from the Connecticut River, the Hadlyme Ferry and Gillette Castle. I never forget how lucky we are to be living in this area, it is so beautiful and tranquil from which I find great inspiration.
