Frequently asked questions
IS STERLING SILVER PURE SILVER?

Sterling silver is an alloy made of 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper (or another metal). These metals are added to make the silver more durable and less soft than pure silver (pure silver is too soft to be used as practical jewelry).

DOES STERLING SILVER TARNISH?

These additional metals (copper especially) make sterling silver more prone to tarnishing. Tarnishing is a natural process that cannot be prevented, but in nearly all cases it can be brought back to its original shine with cleaning. You will still need to clean the tarnished layer at some point with silver polish or a homemade silver cleaner (many options by googling). I recommend cleaning your jewelry at least once a week.

WHY DID MY SILVER TARNISH?

Tarnish on sterling silver is due to contact with sulphur compounds; the main cause being traces of hydrogen sulfide gas in the air. This gas is present in smoke from oil; rubber bands, latex; and in some foods lingering in the air such as eggs, onions, shellfish, kale, broccoli and more. In rare cases the basic body chemistry of some people can react with the alloys and cause tarnishing. Sterling silver can also corrode readily on the skin if enough salt is present (ocean water, excessive sweat, hot tubs, pools) Chlorine and make-up can cause also cause quick blackening of sterling silver. To prevent this, cosmetics/ sunscreen which contain zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, ferric oxide, and calamine should be avoided.

I WENT IN A POOL/ LAKE/ OCEAN/ HOT TUB AND MY SILVER TARNISHED. NOW WHAT?

If you cannot get your tarnish off with a polishing cloth, your item should be cleaned with silver polish or a homemade silver cleaner (many options can be found by simply googling "natural homemade tarnish remover"

If you cannot get the tarnish off your hoop, please contact me. I am happy to help! :)

WHAT IS PROCESSING TIME?

Processing time is NOT shipping time. It is the time it takes to make and package an order.

WHAT IS GOLD FILLED? IS IT THE SAME AS GOLD PLATED?

Gold filled is NOT the same as gold plated. Gold filled wire is made with a thick layer of 14 karat gold bonded to a base metal. It is a much higher quality than gold plated and lasts as long as solid gold. Unlike gold plated, gold fill will not flake off or change color.

Sizing details

SIZING ADVICE:
With nose piercing hoop sizes it is commonly thought that your hoop size is correlated to how large/ or small your nose is. However, the hoop size you choose is actually dependent on how high up or low down your nose has been pierced in your nostril. if your piercing is higher up, a nose ring with a larger diameter would suit you better than one with a small diameter. The most common size ordered is 8mm. You can get a fairly accurate measure by getting a mm ruler and measuring the distance from your nose piercing hole to the edge of your nostril. If you like it a bit looser hoop, choose a mm larger than the size of your measurement. For gauge sizes, 20mm is standard and 22g is slightly thinner than standard.

CAN I EXCHANGE MY ORDER IF IT DOESN'T FIT?

I am able to do size exchanges for a fee of 30% of your purchase price (of the items you want exchanged) plus a shipping fee ($3.50 for order to be sent as a parcel with tracking). The 30% fee is necessary because I am not able to reuse jewelry that is sent back, for sanitary reasons (I melt it down and use it as scrap metal). Let me know if you are interested and I can create a private listing for you :)
