About Howgill Cloth

We aim to create hand and mill woven cloth of the highest quality using wool predominantly sourced from flocks that roam the Yorkshire Dales and Cumbrian Fells. With a particular emphasis on handwoven tweeds, our cloth is firmly rooted in, and inspired by the local landscape.

We are based at Farfield Mill, the last of 4 woollen mills that once operated in the Sedbergh area. Now a converted arts and heritage centre, our location beneath the Howgill Fells inspires and drives us to create cloth of beauty and quality using the resources that surround us.

We launched our first collection in 2019, woven entirely from Laura's Loom luxurious Yorkshire Dales Bluefaced Leicester and Hebridean yarns. Our second collection launched in late summer 2020 - a new yarn and new colours for Autumn.

Our cloth is designed for clothing or light furnishings such as cushions. It is not suitable for heavy duty upholstery.

Our cloth is 100% British, with all manufacturing processes in neighbouring Yorkshire or the Scottish Borders - within 80 miles of our base.
