I am originally from Ecuador, but have lived in Brockport, NY most of my life. My creations reflect the culture of Ecuador, which I love. I have been making jewelry with Precious Metal Clay (PMC) for about ten years. I took one of the first PMC classes offered in the Rochester Area. At that time, the material was very new in the US, so my learning was through experimenting, and through guidance from the former PMC Guild members.
I have taken classes from master jewelers such as Cece Wire, Celie Fago in Vermont, Barbara Becker Simon, Tim McCreight, and others, either traveling where to they live or during PMC Conferences I attended. I also took classes in jewelry making at the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester, N.Y.
I now teach PMC jewelry making in my own studio in Brockport NY, at Studio 34 in Rochester, NY, and from time to time in area Continuing Education Classes.
The jewelry I design and handcraft reflects my love for the culture and traditions of Ecuador, my native country. It also reflects the love I have for the culture and traditions of New Mexico, an area of this country I love and visit often.
I create my jewelry in my studio in Brockport, N.Y., where time passes while I listen to classical music or poetry, another one of my loves. A few years ago I collected, translated and published poetry written by women of Ecuador who at the time were unknown or ignored.
The jewelry I create is one of a kind. I use elements I purchase in my travels, some are elements hand created by native craftsmen in Ecuador.
