About

A passion for silver, glass and gems...

Hello, I'm Ali, from Birmingham, England. I design and make silver, lampwork glass and gemstone jewellery and All About the Beads is my little one-woman business. There are lots of people who make jewellery with beads but I work hard to make my creations stand out from the crowd. Most of my pieces are one-of a-kind; my inspiration comes from the changing colour and beauty of the natural world around me as well as from the beads themselves. I love mixing lampwork glass with natural gemstones and I choose the stones to compliment the beautiful, subtle colours in the glass.

Although designing and making jewellery is not my full time occupation, it is definitely a full time passion. I have always loved fabrics, colour and texture and had made jewellery as a hobby until 2008 when, encouraged by the reception my work got from friends and colleagues, I decided to start making jewellery for sale. Searching online for new materials, I was captivated by the beautiful, subtle colours achieved by artisan glassmakers in lampwork beads and was hooked.

I have a passion for the materials I use in my work. I put lots of energy into finding just the right beads for each design and consider this all part of my creative process. I look for exceptional lampwork glass beads, which I buy directly from the artists who create them. I also hunt down the best quality gemstone beads I can find from all over the world. I am constantly seeking to build my knowledge of gemstones, and make sure I do my research, as I believe it is important for me as a designer to be confident of the quality and authenticity of the materials I use.

I am mostly self-taught - I started out using wire wrapping and cold connection techniques, then tried experimenting with fine silver fusing. Over the past couple of years, with guidance from some more experienced jeweller-friends, I have been developing my silversmithing skills and now I aim to make many of the silver components I use in my designs from scratch. In 2011, in parallel with starting to use a lot more silver in my pieces, I registered my makers’ mark with the Birmingham Assay Office, so my work could be hallmarked and sold as sterling silver.

I want my jewellery to be worn by people who will love it as much as I enjoy making it and the personal connection with my customers is important to me. As well as selling my work online, I like to sell my work at local art fairs and markets and I love having the opportunity to talk with people about the glass and gemstones I use, and for them to see and try on the pieces in person. Selling at fairs is also a good way to meet and chat with other craftspeople.

Returns and exchanges
I gladly accept returns, exchanges, and cancellations

The following items can't be returned or exchanged
Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns for:
  • Custom or personalized orders
  • Perishable products (like food or flowers)
  • Digital downloads
  • Intimate items (for health/hygiene reasons)

Returns and exchange details
I want you to be completely happy with jewellery you buy from me. If you are not 100% happy with an item you've bought you may return it for a full refund of the item price and postage costs. Refunds will not include any customs charges or return postage costs, which are on you. Just let me know within 14 days of receiving your jewellery that you want to return it.

If you wish to return an item, please email me at jewellery [!at] alisonperry.com to confirm you wish to cancel the contract of sale. Please include in your email:
1. Details of the item you wish to return
2. Date of purchase
3. Date you received the item
4. Your Name
5. Your Address

The buyer will be responsible for the cost of return postage. Please obtain proof of postage for anything you send back.
I will refund your payment via the same method you paid within 14 days of receiving the returned item (or receiving evidence the item has been sent back).

In the event your item is lost in the post and does not arrive, I will refund your payment.

I make every effort to package up items securely, but in the event your item is damaged in the post, please return it and I will either fix it and resend, exchange it for something else or issue a full refund.

I do not accept returns on custom-made items, but I will be happy to make adjustments to commission pieces if the size is not right.
Payment
I accept payment via PayPal. Please make your payment within 24 hours of confirming your purchase.

If you see something you like but are not in a position to pay for it now I am happy to reserve items for up to three weeks, just let me know.

Shipping costs are shown separately from the item cost in my listings. I have two different sets of rates for shipping:
1. Items listed for less than £50 will be shipped by First Class post in the UK, and by Royal Mail's International Standard service to the rest of the world.
2. Items costing over £50 will be sent by Royal Mail’s International Tracked & Signed, International Tracked, or International Signed (depending on which of these services is available to your country).

Please note you are responsible for any customs charges that may apply in your country.

If for any reason you wish to cancel your order, you may do so within 14 days of receiving your item. See Refund Policy section below for more details.
Shipping
Items shipping to addresses in the UK:
Items costing under £50 will be sent by First Class Post. Royal Mail aims to deliver the next working day (including Saturdays).
Items costing over £50 will be sent by Special Delivery GuaranteedTM and will be delivered next day.

Items shipping to addresses outside the UK:
Items costing under £50 will be sent by Royal Mail’s International Standard service. Delivery should be within 3-5 days for Europe and 5-7 working days for the rest of the world.
Items costing over £50 will be sent by Royal Mail’s International Tracked and Signed, International Tracked or International Signed service, depending which of these is available to your country - full details available on Royal Mail’s website: http://www.royalmail.com/parcel-despatch-medium/international-delivery/international-tracked-signed
Royal Mail aims to deliver all Tracking and Signature services to Europe within 3-5 working days, and worldwide within 5-7 working days.

I aim to send items out within 3 working days of receiving payment. Any additional charges applied after sending by international customs or postage services are the buyer's responsibility.

If you require something different such as faster shipping, tracking on your parcel or additional insurance please contact me as I'm happy to make special shipping arrangements to suit you.

All my jewellery will be wrapped in tissue paper and placed in an organza bag and I bubble-wrap for extra protection when shipping.

Alterations
If you see a piece you like but think it will be too big / small, long / short I can usually adjust things to fit you. Please just send me a message before you buy the item and we can discuss any changes before you commit to spending any money.

Commissions
I love to work on commission pieces so if you have an idea and you'd like me to work with you to create something special, just send me a convo and we can go from there.

I do not accept returns on custom-made items, but I will be happy to make adjustments to commission pieces if the size is not right.
Privacy
This Privacy Policy describes how and when I collect, use, and share information when you purchase an item from me, contact me, or otherwise use my services through Etsy.com or its related sites and services.
