Announcement   Welcome to all AllAboutTheMonkey - my shop selling products all based on the knot known as a Monkey Fist! I am constantly developing and adding new products throughout the year, so please keep checking back if you like what you see!

Monkey Fist knots were traditionally used by sailors to add weight to the end of a rope to help them throw it further. Often, a rock, bolt or other heavy object was placed inside the knot to add extra weight.

About

A Nautical theme

Hello everyone,

Thank you for visiting my Etsy store! The idea for AllAboutTheMonkey came about after I suggested to my husband that we use monkey fist knots to make place card holders for our wedding. We met sailing and wanted to incorporate a nautical feature somehow and these fun knots seemed perfect. We ended up making them all ourselves as we thought they would make a brilliant personal touch to our wedding tables. We were right - everyone loved them and much to my surprise most of them went to new homes at the end of the day!

At the time, I never even thought about the possibility of selling them but after all the comments from our wedding guests we started thinking on our honeymoon about what else I could make based on this knot and AllAboutTheMonkey was born. We even came up with the logo design on the flight home!

All of the monkey fists are carefully handmade: I am responsible for actually tying the knots and enjoying coming up with new ideas. My husband keeps me grounded though and helps refine the designs from a practical perspective. He has also been responsible for designing and building a number of tools to help ensure all the monkey fists are as consistent as possible with minimal wastage of the raw materials.

We started with Christmas Baubles, as this was my first product idea and because we just about had enough time to be able to launch before Christmas 2017. Unfortunately married life, and the purchase of a 'project' house has limited the product development since then but I do have lots of plans for new products and am slowly starting to create prototypes so I can start listing them here. Look out for keyrings in Summer 2018 for example. If you have any questions, please get in touch and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

I hope you enjoy browsing and see something you like,

Emma

Pexmas is a fabulous celebration of local talent and one of the jolliest festive outings in the calendar. Held in Warwick Gardens in Peckham, the independent market takes place annually on the second weekend in December. 2018 will be our 8th year, and we are extending the event with more stalls, a workshop tent and a super stylish santa’s grotto. Last year Pexmas hosted almost 100 traders per day across food, drinks, handmade crafts, vintage wares and all sorts of independent retailers. We welcomed around 5000 visitors across the 2 days, despite some snowy weather.
