This was the view I had everyday where my Etsy shop first started, in a little cozy spot in San Francisco.

Most rock climbers need gymnast chalk to keep their hands dry when climbing. Many early climbers started off carrying a clear zip lock bag of chalk. In 2009, I wanted to buy a chalk bag that I could love and adore. Chalk bags at the time were mostly made outside the US and labor was outsourced. This lead my interest in designing handmade ones from California. Here I am today!
What does beta mean? In climbing, beta is a term used for any piece of information or advice to help climb a route. "Hey, what's the beta on the crux?" Usually, it's strategy to get pass the difficult part of the route, but it can also be information about the rock or approach. In climbing gyms, it can be frown upon to "beta spray" while the climber is on the wall. On the other hand, some people love it, like me. This is how I came up with Beta Crush. Crush it!
This Etsy shop started in San Francisco as All Beta in 2011. I design and sew fun, creative, silly rock climbing chalk bags for climbers. My first one was faux fur and purple. I loved it so much that I made more furry chalk bags in a variety of colors such as neon green, orange, and crazy combos. The second idea came to mind was the Chinese take out chalk bag, and then came the great white shark with its mouth as an opening, then the piranha, then the dinosaur tails. Great white shark continues to be a popular one, though it started out with a flat bottom with no tail. It now has evolved into a full body shark with tail and fins.
The shop name has since changed to Beta Crush. Beta Crush's logo is a beta heart next to a mountain symbolizing the love for being in the outdoors and, of course, beta crushing. I wanted a logo discrete and minimal enough that I am happy about. I hope you like it as much as I do! It will be printed on some chalk bags starting 2021.

Repairing Chalk Bags
Since Beta Crush chalk bags are hand made by me, I can repair and fix them free of charge. You would have to pay for shipping one way to get it to me. This is the same policy for damaged items from shipping and defective items. Please message me Etsy convo for more information.
