My journey to creating LUSHVALE Naturals starts like many others, to create a soap that is 100% natural with zero chemicals, no lab manufactured colours and zero chemically produced frangrances. But that was only the beginning of my journey into soap making.
Let me start at the beginning
After having my first child my skin changed dramatically for the worse.
Suddenly, I was reacting to everything my skin touched and would break out in either a nasty red itchy rash OR the product would burn my skin almost instantly creating an extreme sunburn like burn. So I did what every new mum does and tried EVERYTHING known to the beauty industry, though it came at an extreme cost to the hip pocket with products used once and thrown away.
Everything from sunscreen, lip gloss, eye shadow, moisturiser, foundation and soaps were now an issue for my over dramatic, super sensitive skin.
Thankfully, I quickly discovered that I had an allergy to Aloe vera, yes! that 'go to' natural product thats meant to soothe and aid in skin repair was doing the complete opposite for me. Burn and itch was what I would call it!
Fast forward, because eliminating Aloe vera was pretty easy. Thankfully it is written as an ingredient on the backs of every product. Insert happy ending right? Wrong! There was another natural product (commonly found in 95% of beauty products on the market) still causing little angry red dots of buring fire to appear and it was then my journey into the soap making world began.
SHEA BUTTER
Yes that magical 'all natural' shea butter was the baine of my existence. Incase your scratching your head on what shea is, it's that 'vitamin e' in 95% of beauty products. So, there you have it, 2 natural products I have an allergic reaction to had been discovered, albeit 16yrs apart.
For those 16yrs I ran from tree to tree avoiding the sun (natural redhead here) because every sunscreen seems to contain my allergens. After years of trying sunscreen after sunscreen I gave up trusting people and companies when they said 'oh our product is great for sensitive skin' because literally, it burnt my skin worse than the sun and in half the time.
So getting back to my soaping story, In my rush and excitement to make and try all natural soap made to suit my skin, I bought two bars of soap with my first batch of glorious healthy soap oils. So imagine my excitement when it arrived! BUT, I wasn't silly. I knew trying it on my hands was my safest bet.
Oh! am I glad I tried my soap on a very small part of my skin! Before I could even dry my hands it started to burn. I was so cranky at myself thinking 'how could I not check the ingredients'. Burning and itchy hands was almost instant from a wash off product.
It was nice to know this time it wasn't my haste to buy, but instead a hidden and unknown ... killer (okay maybe thats a little overboard) hidden within the soap. A quick process of elimination and BAM!
SHEA BUTTER = DEATH
What I wasn't aware of is how common this allergy is, so if your one of the many out there who 'react' to lotions and potions try our soap today!
Warning though! It was my 'mud bar' facial soap that helped pinpoint the allergy so YES the shea butter is still in there, but NO I dont use that soap, and YES I have another facial soap for my fellow suffers out there.
So that brings us to single serve soap slices or what we refer to here at LUSHVALE Naturals headquarters 'luxurious soap on the go'
