Mother and daughter explore nature through photography.

Nature and art have always been important to both Karen (mother) and Evelyn (daughter). Evelyn was the first to show a serious interest in photography; she received her first camera at the age of 13 and was soon filling the family computer with hundreds of images, mostly of nature. She became known at school for the lovely note cards she made for her teachers at the end of each school year. Encouraged by her band director, she started selling her cards and photos at the annual music department craft fair, and was pleased and excited by her success. In her high school and college art programs she has experimented with many other media, and especially loves 3-D work, but she continues to pursue photography as an expression of her love of nature, light, and pattern.

Her mother, Karen, has always enjoyed taking pictures, and loved watching her daughter's artistic talents develop, but did not consider photography a serious pursuit until she began experimenting with her own photos on the computer. Starting with one image that particularly intrigued her, a colorful photo of an emerging maple leaf, she began creating mandalas and montages by digitally manipulating her photos. She constructs each image step-by-step, isolating elements from the background, multiplying them, and experimenting with size, transparency, color intensity, and design, until she is pleased with the result. The process is one of discovery as much as creation; she never knows just what colors, textures, and patterns will emerge. Creating nature mandalas and photo montages has become a natural extension of her lifelong interests in meditation, spirituality, and cosmology.

Karen and Evelyn enjoy pursuing their photography together and sharing it with others through their Etsy shop as well as at local craft fairs and art shows. Their home state of Maine provides many wonderful subjects for their photos.

Evelyn has experimented with many artistic media since she became a prolific finger painter at age two. Now a college student, she pursues photography as a way to explore her love of nature and keen awareness of color, light, shape, and texture.

Welcome to Allen & Allen Photo and Craft. We are mother (Karen) and daughter (Evelyn) photographers who live in the beautiful state of Maine. We shoot most of our photographs here and some when we travel; out-of-state sites include Indiana and Canada.

For both of us, photography is a way to share our love of the natural world. Evelyn specializes in close-up nature photography. I isolate interesting elements from my photographs and manipulate them on the computer to create nature mandalas and other designs.

Our photographs are available as note cards and as plain or matted prints. We also offer some posters and greeting cards with messages. All photographic items are printed to order on fine photo paper or note card stock with Epson or Canon photo inks. From time to time I will also list trinket boxes or small drawstring bags that I make using my photo designs. If you would like a photo made up in a format other than what is listed, please contact me about a custom order.

We accept credit cards (through Etsy), PayPal, money orders and checks. If you pay by check or money order please make payable to Allen & Allen Photo & Craft. Residents of Maine will be charged state sales tax (5.5% as of 10/1/13).
Items are printed to order (except for crafts) and normally shipped within one to two weeks. Individual items may have different shipping times. If you need something more quickly, or by a certain date, please inquire BEFORE you order. I will make every effort to stay in touch with you from the time you place your order until you receive it. If for some reason shipping is delayed I will notify you. Custom orders, especially of craft items, may require extra time.

Shipping is via USPS First Class Mail or Priority Mail. Purchases will be sent to your Etsy address unless you instruct me otherwise. If you order multiple items, and the combined shipping cost seems high, please contact me; I will refund any shipping overages. I will supply tracking numbers for all packages except for loose individual cards and small prints which ship without tracking to keep postal costs low.

Some items such as calendars and canvas wraps, which are produced from our photographs with the assistance of manufacturing partners, may be shipped directly from that manufacturer. This will be noted in the item description. All other items are made directly by us and shipped by us.

At present we ship only within the United States; we do not offer international shipping. We are currently researching and developing a new privacy policy that will be compliant with international standards, including the GDPR. Once it is complete, we hope to offer international shipping again.

If the amount you pay for shipping exceeds the actual postage plus the cost of packaging materials by $1.00 or more, I will refund the difference. Domestic postage can vary significantly by region, and multiple items may ship more cheaply than calculated. I recycle shipping materials when possible to keep costs down.

Plain prints and matted prints are sealed with backings in protective clear cellophane bags and shipped in cardboard photo mailers or boxes.

Loose note cards are sealed with their envelopes in clear cellophane bags and shipped in regular envelopes with some reinforcement. Boxed note card sets are packaged in clear card boxes and mailed in small cardboard boxes.

Additional shipping charges may apply to orders sent to Alaska or Hawaii. Please inquire before paying for your order.

If you know us or have met us at a local craft fair and would like to inquire about free local pickup/delivery of an order, please contact me.
Additional policies and FAQs
Due to the nature of computer displays and the printing process, colors of finished products may vary slightly from what you see on your screen. We adjust our photos carefully until we are pleased with the colors and hope you will be, too. If the color variation is more than you expected, please contact me. Watermarks that appear on listed photos to discourage copying will not appear on finished products.

We print most of our photos at several sizes. Because the ratio of height to width varies, the cropping of the photo may be slightly different for each size. For this reason the edges of the photos may not correspond exactly to those on the photos in the listings.

We are happy to fill custom orders. Most photos are available as note cards, prints, and matted prints up to 12" x 12" square or 11" x 14" rectangular. I can also make trinket boxes with any round image and bags with any round or square image, with my choice of fabric lining. Some photographs may not print well at the larger sizes; I will advise you if this is the case. Custom orders of craft items may take extra time before shipping. I will give you an estimate.

If you would like a mandala in custom colors, please ask. I have many photographs and would be happy to create a new design on spec for you.

If you plan to send a square card by mail, please note that it requires extra postage as a non-machinable item. Check the USPS website to confirm current rates.

Off-the-shelf square frames are available at many craft stores; 5" x 5", 8" x 8", 10" x 10" and 12" x 12" are typical sizes. If you need a square mat you may have to order it online or cut it yourself; I offer my square prints already mounted in 10" x 10" and 12" x 12" mats. There are many square frames and mats available at online vendors. Contact me if you have any questions or need suggestions.

We (individually) retain the rights to all our photographs and images. We want you to enjoy them, but please do not copy, scan, or duplicate them in any way. If someone admires our work and would like an item of their own, please refer them to our Etsy shop!
