About

It’s such a gift to be able to dream something up, to watch it unfold and to then see it materialize.

How I got started
One day about a year ago, I was searching the internet for an origami project to keep my ten year old son occupied on a Sunday afternoon. I stumbled across coffee filter roses. Immediately wanted to make these coffee filter roses, as they were the most realistic handmade roses I’d ever seen. I was so excited about making these roses that I walked thirty minutes in the rain each way to get the cone type coffee filters I needed. I studied many tutorials online and tried different tips from all over and eventually developed a technique all my own. It took a lot of work to get Ambridge Studio started, but I enjoyed every step of the way. I have such a passion for making roses, creating arrangements and seeing the finished product.

My process
I start with cone shaped coffee filters, floral wire and floral tape. It’s a long and time consuming process to make each rose. I cut out the petals from a template then wrap each petal with floral tape onto the wire. I put two or three petals on at a time. Once I have the rose made, I paint them with watercolors. Once painted roses are dry, I curl and shape petals around a bamboo skewer.
To make the leaves I cut the leaf shape out of coffee filters and paint them with watercolors. To get the color dark enough I paint them twice. Once dry I attach two leaves with the wire in the center. Then I serrate the edges with a scissor.

My Workspace
My workspace is portable. I keep my supplies in boxes. I spread out while I’m working and pack up when I’m done. I have a box for the rose petals, a box for the leaf supplies and a box for the rosebud materials. When I paint I use paper plates to mix colors on, and hang the roses to dry.

My inspiration
My roses are inspired by nature. I’ll stop and look at roses any chance I get, even the roses sold in the supermarket. Color palettes might make me imagine possibilities, or a beautiful vase might spark an idea. I’ve even been inspired to create just by coming across a beautiful shade of pink. I have so many ideas for what to make next. It’s such a gift to be able to dream something up, to watch it unfold and to then see it materialize.
