About AmongtheOaksFarm

On Etsy since 2019

Medicine offered by the land, crafted by us and given with love to you 💚🌿🧚‍♂️

We are homesteaders in the Red River Gorge of Eastern Kentucky - constantly learning how to be more self-sufficient and engaged in our community. This shop features all the herbal medicine and body products we use ourselves. They are all made by hand with the utmost respect for our local ecosystem, always featuring our farm-grown herbs, wild-crafted plants and other local ingredients when possible.

Shop Ethics // Guidelines
- Always do your own research when trying new herbs. Check for allergies, contraindications with pharmaceuticals and if herbs are safe for pregnant and lactating mothers.
- When trying a new herb or product, always try a small amount first to check for adverse reactions.
- Dosage is highly dependent on the individual and your goals with taking ak herbal product. In general, start low and increase as needed. Experiment, pay attention to how your body feels and consider keeping a journal to track changes. We often make general dosage reccomendations as a startinf point but we are not clinical herbaliats. Talk with a qualified, clinical herbalist for more specific reccomendations.
- Our products are not FDA approved. We provide detailed listings for reference purposes only and are in no way offering medical advice. If you believe you are ill, you should consult a medical doctor. Check with your medical doctor before adding new herbs to your routine.
- All products are made by hand, by just Sarah.
- Only high quality, food-grade ingredients are used to make these creations.
- Organic farm-grown and wildcrafted herbs are used almost exclusively. If not specified, herbs that we can't grow here (like frankincense resin) are purchased from reputable herb companies.
- Wildcrafted herbs are harvested with great care and respect for the plant and the ecosystem. Plants are only harvested when there is abundance. Threatened or endangered herbs are never collected. We focus on wildcrafting abundant, non-native plants.
- We only utilize herbs that are completely safe for humans. As with all things, it is possible to have a personal allergy or reaction to any plant or product, so please test each product on a small area. In general, these herbs are all considered safe, even at high doses.
- Great care is taken to make all products in the cleanest and safest way possible. No artificial preservatives are used, and it is your responsibility to keep the product clean and of high quality once it gets to you. Tinctures are preserved with alcohol and can theoretically last many, many years. For best quality, keep tinctures out of direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Vinegar-based products can also last quite a while (1+ year) but are higher quality if used within a year. Again, keep out of direct sunlight and high temperatures. Body products are more prone to contamination with bacteria or mold. To prolong their life, only put clean hands/utensils into the containers. If you don’t plan on using the product regularly, you can store them in the refrigerator.
