Hand woven, Hand Dyed Accessories

After earning a BA in Political Science and working in Human Resources for a few years, I yearned to make things! So I quit my job, packed up my car and moved across the country (Canada) to study textiles in Vancouver. I've been out of Textile Art school for about 3 years and have been working in textiles ever since.

I hand weave everything on my trusty floor loom in my home studio. It all starts with material and that then inspires the design. I decide on the pattern of the weave depending on what I want the finished fabric to look like and drape. I dress my loom (this means I place all the threads on it, this can be anything from 100-1000+ depending on the weave structure and the piece--this by far takes the longest and then I finally get to weave.

I also hand dye everything using natural dyes. I think they provide the most beautiful palette and are environmentally responsible. I also only work with luxury natural materials like silk and linen!

When I'm not working in my home studio, I am weaving at the Silk Weaving Studio on Granville Island in Vancouver. I love being a part of this studio--I've continued to learn a lot.
