About

About Yakawonis?

Hello, my name is Sarah Yakawonis, and I am the sole proprietor and designer of everything here at YakawonisQuilling. I am an artist living in Portland, Maine. I have my BFA from the Maine College of Art with a focus in graphic design. I love graphic design and creating images and illustrations on my long suffering iMac. While at art school I also picked up an obsessive attention to detail.

I first discovered quilling in 2010, about a year after I graduated. I fell head over heals for the medium, and I wanted take it from an enchanting craft to an astounding art. To that end I decided to create a series of anatomical illustrations in quilling. I spent the next year working tirelessly to create a series of twelve painstakingly accurate quilled anatomical illustrations, some of which I still have available for sale. Although my anatomical quilling garnered me a great deal of attention and accolades, I chose to move on from that theme.

After I completed my anatomical quilling series I was truly missing making art on my beloved iMac, and it was my true desire to merge my love of digital imaging with quilling. By merging my two loves I have developed a special process all my own. I begin on the computer using a combination of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and on occasion InDesign, to perfectly execute my idea. I then print what I’ve made and the quilling magic begins as I create coils loops and swirls until I find the perfect combination for the project I’m working on. Next, I cut out the upper layer and position and glue it in place. Finally, I use a secret process I have developed to photograph the work so that retains all of its dimensionality. I have had people touch my prints to see if it’s flat!

Shipping
I Use a few method of shipping depending on what it is you’ve purchased.

Posters - will be shipped using USPS first class mail. They are shipped in a reinforced cardboard mailing tube. I fill excess space in the tube with tissue and wrap the posters in tissue paper, secured with a few pieces of quilling paper.

Ornaments - will be shipped using USPS priority mail. I first place the ornament in a small box (perfect for warping up as a gift or storing with all of your holiday treasures) with lots of tissue paper to keep your ornament safe. The small box is wrapped in bubble wrap and placed in a larger box with extra paper padding to ensure its safe arrival to your home.

Fine art - will be shipped using FedEx. I will use FedEx’s wonderful Art Boxes, designed especially for transporting art safely.

Pillows and phone cases - My pillows and phone cases are made with the help of my manufacturing partners. I design them with my original art work and they print and produce them! We ship from both Canada and the USA. This means that Canadian and American customers never have to pay duties or customs fees since we handle the border crossing ourselves.

***Please Note: For Locations outside of the U.S. you may be charged customs fees, tax, or duties. These fees are set by your government and are the responsibility of the buyer. For more information please contact your postal service.
Refunds and Exchanges
I will only refund one-of-a-kind original work (ornaments and fine art) and only in the event that the work has been damaged in shipping. I will only offer this refund within two weeks of the delivery date. So if this happens send me a convo or email right away and I will assess the circumstances and deiced how to move forward. But please keep in mind that customer satisfaction is extremely important to me.

If your poster, pillow or phone case has been damaged in the mail, I will happily send you a replacement. Just send me a convo or email. I will ask you to send a photo of the damaged item and packaging.
