AWD Handcrafted Jewelry

Andrea Watson Designs is a small jewelry studio located in Wilmington, North Carolina. I have a studio space just a short walk from our back door, but most days I find myself at my bench in the corner of our dining room. In front of the largest window, it's the brightest + cheeriest spot in the house.

As a child, I'd always dreamed of being an artist. As I grew older, a life as a successful artist seemed unobtainable and I settled for pursing a more "pragmatic" career. Eventually I stumbled into a Jewelry + Metals course while at Bowling Green State University and discovered an artistic medium I was too passionate about to resist.

Now, I employ myself part-time as an artist and look forward to the day I can work full-time as a metalsmith. My jewelry is primarily inspired by modern, minimalist, and geometric lines - along with a love for nature. I have two furry helpers, Ace (a sweet pit-bill mix) and Tommy (a tiny tuxedo cat), as well as an amazing husband (who always makes sure I take time to stop and smell the roses).

Frequently asked questions

Jewelry Care

To prolong the life of your jewelry, refrain from wearing it while sleeping, showering, swimming, or exercising. Jewelry should be kept in a cool, dry environment when not in use - preferably in an air-tight container, such as a jewelry box. You may also want to minimize your jewelry's contact with chemicals (lotion, hairspray, bleach, perfume, etc) to best maintain its original finish.

Over time, any type of metal will begin to tarnish. Continue reading below for suggestions on how to care for specific types of jewelry.

Oxidized Jewelry:

Use only soap & water to clean oxidized copper or oxidized sterling silver jewelry. Pat dry with a soft cloth. Do not use any other method as it may remove the finish.

Polished Copper:

There are many simple methods available for polishing copper. My favorite requires cutting a lemon in half and sprinkling salt over the half you wish to use. Place your piece of jewelry on top of lemon and rub gently. Rinse in warm water and pat dry.

14K Gold-Filled and 14K Solid Gold

To clean 14K gold jewelry, use mild soap and warm water. Gently swish the jewelry to clean, and pat dry with a soft cloth (non-abrasive).

Sterling Silver

To clean sterling silver jewelry, you can use mild soap and warm water, a sterling silver polishing cloth (I recommend Sunshine polishing cloths), or a sterling silver jewelry cleaning solution. When using a cleaning solution, it is important to follow the directions as extensive exposure to the chemical may damage your jewelry.
