What makes the choice of being in the moment difficult
is that we have to surrender our need to know. The ego
gives us a false sense of knowing, which is comforting,
even though the ego doesn’t really know where life is
going or what will happen next. So all we really have to
surrender is the pretense of knowing, not actual
knowing. The truth is we don’t know what the next
moment holds. That’s both the challenge of being in the
Now and, actually, the true joy of it. To be in the
moment, we have to be willing to just be and to respond
naturally to what arises out of the flow, without
pretending to know what to do next or what will
happen. The thing is, you have never known what was
going to happen or what to do next. Admitting that you
don’t know allows you to move out of your egoic mind
and into the moment, where true happiness, peace, and
alignment with Essence and its intentions are possible.

as quoted from "What About Now" by Gina Lake

Truth never changes . . . but sometimes truth IS change!

Miss Ruby (yes . . . you can quote me)

"The symbol of the Goddess is not a parallel structure to the symbolism of God the Father. The Goddess does not rule the world, she IS the world. Manifest in each of us, She can be known internally by every individual, in all her magnificent diversity. She does not legitimize the rule of either sex by the other and lends no authority to rulers of temporal hierarchies. In Witchcraft, each of use must reveal our own truth. Deity is seen in our own forms, whether female or male, because the Goddess has Her male aspect. Sexuality is a sacrament. Religion is a matter of relinking, with the divine within and with her outer manifestations in all of the human and natural world."

"RENAVIGATING THE HUMAN PROCESS is our most urgent necessity. Every instant we are using the "ultimate technology" that we are as a here-and-now instrument of consciousness and creativity. The problems we now face as human beings are a result of software deficiencies in our collective psyche. We have the ability to reprogram our mental operating environment and to renavigate our process away from oblivion and towards the continuity of life. The Earth is the only planet we know so graced." "With each breath, you take into your body 10 sextillion atoms, and -- owing to the wind's ceaseless circulation -- over a year's time you have intimate relations with oxygen molecules exhaled by every person alive, as well as by everyone who ever lived." Rob Brezsny's Astrology Newsletter

“This being human is a guest house. Every morning is a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor...Welcome and entertain them all. Treat each guest honorably. The dark thought, the shame, the malice, meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in. Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.”

Diamond Sutra

Chapter 7.

Then Buddha asked Subhuti, "What do you think, Subhuti, has the Buddha arrived at the highest, most fulfilled, most awakened and enlightened mind? Does the Buddha teach any teaching?"

Subhuti replied, "As far as I have understood the lord Buddha's teachings, there is no independently existing object of mind called the highest, most fulfilled, awakened or enlightened mind. Nor is there any independently existing teaching that the Buddha teaches. Why? Because the teachings that the Buddha has realized and spoken of cannot be conceived of as separate, independent things and therefore cannot be described. The truth in them is uncontainable and inexpressible. It neither is, nor is it not. What does this mean? What this means is that Buddhas and disciples are not enlightened by a set method of teachings, but by an internally intuitive process which is spontaneous and is part of their own inner nature."

As quoted from Alex Johnson's new translation of The Diamond Sutra; which is the world's earliest dated printed book. Alex has made this loving translation available on his website as a downloadable PDF file for only $9.95. Please visit his website and support this beautiful work:

"A pearl is a beautiful thing that is produced by an injured life. It is the tear [that results] from the injury of the oyster. The treasure of our being in this world is also produced by an injured life. If we had not been wounded, if we had not been injured, then we will not produce the pearl."

Chapters of My Life
A Poem by Portia Nelson

Chapter 1

I walked down the sidewalk and fell into a deep hole. I couldn’t get out and I couldn’t figure out why. It wasn’t my fault. It t took a long time to get out.

Chapter 2

I walked down the sidewalk and fell into the same hole again. I couldn’t understand. It wasn’t my fault. I really had to struggle to get out.

Chapter 3

I walked down the sidewalk and fell into the same hole again. This time I understood why and it was my fault. This time it was easier to get out.

Chapter 4

I walked down the sidewalk and saw the same big hole. I walked around it. I didn’t fall into that hole.

Chapter 5

I chose another sidewalk.

If we are “all creatures great and small,” from bacteria to whales, part of Gaia, then we are all of us potentially important to her well being. We knew in our hearts that the destruction of a whole ranges of other species was wrong but now we know why. No longer can we merely regret the passing of one of the great whales, or the blue butterfly, nor even the smallpox virus. When we eliminate one of these from Earth, we may have destroyed a part of ourselves, for we also are a part of Gaia.

There are many possibilities for comfort as there are for dismay in contemplating the consequences of our membership in this great commonwealth of living things. It may be that one role we play is as the senses and nervous system for Gaia. Through our eyes she has for the first time seen her very fair face and in our minds become aware of herself. We do indeed belong here. The earth is more than just a home, it’s a living system and we are part of it.
- James Lovelock, quoted in Missa Gaia

"Only as a spiritual warrior can one withstand the path of knowledge. A warrior cannot complain or regret anything. His life is an endless challenge and challenges cannot possibly be good or bad. Challenges are simply challenges. The basic difference between an ordinary man and a warrior is that a warrior takes everything as a challenge, while an ordinary man takes everything as a blessing or a curse." (Don Juan as quoted by Jack Kornfield in A Path With Heart.)

Ruby's Horoscope from . . . I think today we're all Libras!

"Your hope for a bright future could make you feel optimistic today. Since you are aware of the effect of positive thinking, you may recognize that looking at your future in a way that is upbeat and positive can help you attract this energy to you. This may be a good time to create a visualization that can help you manifest your dreams. You may first wish to write down a list of the goals you wish to attain in the future, noting with as much detail as possible what your expectations will look like. After looking this over, you can close your eyes and picture the life that you want as if it already exists around you. Try picturing your surroundings or the feelings and sensations you have. Should negative thoughts enter your mind, gently release them and come back to your ideal picture of the future.

Visualization is a powerful tool that helps us transform our life in the present into our dream of the future. When we have positive feelings about what we can achieve, we start to actually live according to our potential; our thoughts influence our present actions, which will directly influence our future results. Picturing each part of our ideal as if it were real lets us see where we can go, exploring every possibility and its relationship to our lives. Using visualization today will make it easier for you to become energized and motivated by your hopes and will bring you closer toward realizing your dreams."

One more reason to cultivate your imagination: "When we view our daydreams as just one step in a larger plan of goal realization, we are more apt to treat what we see in our imaginations as possible futures instead of unattainable fantasies. Though we may have to modify our visualizations to correspond to reality's rules, we will nonetheless discover that the possibilities we saw in our mind's eye are entirely attainable. Turning a daydream into a practical plan is as easy as thinking critically about what we wish to achieve. Doing this requires us to look not only at where we are in the present and where we hope to be in the future but also at the many steps we will have to take if we wish to turn our fantasies into reality." "In this life we cannot do great things. We can only do small things with great love." Mother Teresa.

"Despite superficial appearances to the contrary, all of creation is on our side; the very structure of reality ensures our eventual liberation from suffering; life is a Divine conspiracy to awaken us to our god-like nature and become co-administrators of the divine plan for evolution."

Quoted from Pronoia, by Rob Brezsny

New to You: Ruby's Reiki. Healing specializing in the treatment of anxiety, addiction and recovery. Purchase one Reiki session and get the second one free! I will be accepting clients in my Hillsboro studio, or at Calypso Family Clinic in McMinnville, or you can purchase a long distance healing session.

Reiki is an ancient form of stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. A subtle energy flows from the hands of the practitioner into the client, and it is this energy that creates the relaxation and healing effect. Although everyone's experience is different, it has been documented that Reiki reduces anxiety and tension, and helps improve the quality of sleep for many. These are critical issues in the life of those of us who are recovering from addiction and seeking holistic ways to manage the complexity of living a sober life.

"Decide what is sacred to you, and put your best life energies at its service. Make that the focus of your studies, your work, the test of your pleasures and your relationships. Don't ever let fear or craving for security turn you aside. When you serve your passion, when you are willing to risk yourself for something, your greatest creative energies are released. Hard work is required, but nothing is more joyful than work infused by love." Starhawk, Spiral Dance, p 11.

In this year of our planetary evolution, 2012, and from a lifelong favorite poem:

“He drew a circle that shut me out-
Heretic , rebel, a thing to flout.
But love and I had the wit to win:
We drew a circle and took him In !

Love and Light from Miss Ruby!

In the spirit of the Occupy World movement, I would like to direct your attention to my anti-shopping shopping section: Nearly Free Art, which is slowly filling with zero carbon footprint shopping selections! No fossil fuels are used!

While participating in a march with my Occupy friends, I became distracted with a handpainted sign that a lovely little hippie boy had made, it said: "KEEP SHOPPING . . . EVERYTHING'S FINE". This really bothered me because I "get it".

Several months ago I made a personal promise to Mother Earth that I will never again purchase ANY new clothing (other than undies LOL). I confine my garments to those that are hand made or pre-loved exclusively. But the little hippie boy's sign continued to haunt me. So I deciced to start offering my inspired works of art in a digital format at a very low price. No fossil fueled transportation, no shipping charges, no BS!

Let me know what you think, I mean it! I will be posting digitally available pieces as fast as I can, but if you have a favorite work please send me a message and I will bump your request to the front of the line, OK?

Miss Ruby loves you very much!

I am thankful for my family, especially for parents who love me and for my precious grandsons. I am thankful for the chance to go to school! I am thankful for being well, safe, loved, warm, rested! I am so very thankful to Goddess for my friends!

Blessings and love to all who visit here today, may you be thankful!

Share the light! Occupy your life!

Keep in mind that all of my work can be made available as a $3.00 pdf file that I will happily zing off to you upon request. It is important to me that my angels are shared, that the message is not hindered by traditional commerce . . . so please ask me if you connect with a particular piece and would be OK with printing it yourself!

Love you!

Miss Ruby

I tried to own my own ugliness today, but it backfired. What am I not seeing?

My heart holds light for the Occupy World movement. Eschew the mentality of "other-ness"! We, together, all of us, are the 99 percent! Thank you to the Portland Police Department and Mayor Adams for the incredible display of respect and integrity as we continue to evolve.

Wow! Is it Autumn already? What a beautiful time to create . . . inspiration is everywhere! From today's consult of the I-Ching: "You are advised now to stop looking forward and backward, to abandon your ambitions, to disengage from judgements and critical thinking. If a thought, attitude, or action is not in accord with the principles of acceptance, equanimity, humility, and gentleness, do not indulge in it. The I Ching encourages you to ACTIVELY PRACTICE INNOCENCE. Because the ego is strong, you must make a conscious and conscientious effort to be innocent."

Oh, I really like this quote from Anton Chekov! "In the search for truth, human beings take two steps forward and one step back. Suffering, mistakes, and weariness of life thrust them back, but the thirst for truth and stubborn will drive them foward. And who knows? Perhaps they will reach the real truth at last.

Blessings and Light! My name is Ruby and I am a watercolor artist, Certified Reiki Practitioner, a star child, and an empath with a heart for honoring the divinely feminine in each human.
