I've been a designer for a few years now but a knitter since I was 4. My mum taught me to knit and I was surrounded by aunts and grandmothers who knitted so it was no surprise that I fell in love with knitting too!
Most of the knitting I did in the early days was for my nieces and nephews when they were babies. I believe nothing welcomes a new little arrival to the world better than a lovingly made little cardi or blanket.
Whilst at university, I knitted toys for my local yarn shop in my free time. The window display was full of my toys! This was quite an achievement for me. The toys were bought and sent to people all over the world, especially Australia, South Africa and the US.
Later on I went on to knit premature baby clothes for charity, the first one being the Scottish-based Bonnie Babies, but I was never completely happy with the results. I wanted something that said, 'You may be early compared to most but you are here at just the right time!' I strived to design clothes that fitted perfectly and were as sweet as the newborn clothes that are widely available.
One day, while reading a knitting magazine, I came across a competition for designing a premature baby knit. I entered a little cardi with a teddy on the front and was delighted to win 2nd place! I got a lovely parcel of goodies and a message from the editor saying 'Congratulations, and all the best with your designing future'. My first thought was 'I am not a designer', followed by 'Why not?'!
I'm delighted to be able to share my patterns with you and knitters all over the world. Most of my patterns are for babies and toys and have been published in various British knitting magazines. If you have an idea of your own that is not available in my shop, send me a message and I will look into the possibility of making a custom order. Similarly, if you see a design you love but can't knit, let me know and I may be able to knit it up for you specially.
