Pioden - pronounced pure den - Welsh for magpie

We met while at art school in Manchester; Angharad studying Textile Design for Fashion and Lizzie studying Embroidery. We decided to start a business at our kitchen table while talking about how to spend our lives making things we love.

Angharad's designs are inspired by places she's travelled to and things she's collected. A Welsh speaker, we decided to call our little business 'Pioden', meaning magpie. We love the idea of travelling round and soaking up cultures. Our original designs add bold, contemporary colour and pattern to traditional inspirations.

  • Angharad Gwynant

    Owner, Designer

My name is Angharad - I'm the designer half of Pioden Prints. I met Lizzie in Manchester when we were both at university there. We chose the name Pioden because my designs are drawn from my travels. Pronounced pure den, it means Magpie in Welsh.

  • Lizzie Atherton

    Owner, Creator

Hello, I'm Lizzie - the maker half of Pioden. I turn Angharad's designs into lovely crafted items. We print onto quality papers and fabrics sourced from small and ethical companies. I studied Embroidery at uni which comes in useful here!
